Canadian mom, Lisa Kirkman, has a desperate plea for you; To help her get her young son back from the clutches of the American government.
Almost two years ago, Lisa's son, Noah, and his younger sister took a summer holiday to visit his stepfather in Oregon. During his trip he was picked up by local authorities for riding his bike without a helmet. Noah Kirkman is a special needs child with a large file with social services in Canada. Upon this discovery Oregon authorities placed him into emergency foster care, despite Lisa having custody of her daughter and being considered a completely fit parent in Canada. Lisa's journey to get her son back is one that is both unprecedented and unbelievable. Given a list of guidelines and measures that Lisa. her family, and her home would have to adhere to, this distraught mother did everything she was required to do. Now, at the end of this completion, The Department of Human Services (DHS) in Oregon is demanding Lisa undergo private therapy that could cost $20,000.
Meanwhile , Lisa says that Noah is being held in horrifying family situations while his own family in Canada would give anything to have him home. Not only has his placement been changed four times; Noah is being denied the right to practice his Jewish faith, and has been subject to awful slanderous name-calling.
In Canada, all the seemingly appropriate measures have been taken. Politicians, human rights groups, lawyers and embassies have all been contacted to no real progress so far has been made. No one seems to know how to handle such an atypical case in cross border relations.
Lisa has begun to take matters into her own hands and is requesting the help of citizens throughout the US and Canada in holding the state of Oregon and DHS responsible for what seems to be an outright breach of United Nations policy. That could be a form of extortion right? She proved to be a competent parent, why not let go of her child right now? Demanding her to pay $20,000 is just wrong!
