Parole After 2 Years in Mexican Prison

Brenda Martin, the 52-year-old Canadian woman who languished for two years in a Mexican prison without a trial for her alleged involvement in an international investment scam, spent Mother's Day with her mother, Marjorie Bletcher.

Brenda’s been doing interviews all morning. She’s enjoying this freedom and is glad to be home - she doesn’t mind all the attention.

I’ve had faith in Brenda all along. When Corrections Canada translated all of the documents from the trial from Spanish to English, they realized there was absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing…it's all circumstantial.

She's a completely different person from the one I’d been talking to on the phone when she was in the prison. She told me it was like she’d left part of herself prison. I think she’s a better person now, more considerate of people. It might not happen overnight, but I’m sure she’s going to help someone else. She'll “pay it back.”

She’s got a parole stipulation that says she cannot go 40 kilometers from home. The first time I saw her in the prison she apologized for putting me through all this. She said, “I am not guilty, but I know this must have been hard for you. It was a big strain for both of us.”

God bless you and your daughter and give you more time together than those stolen from you.
