A Crush On Obama Girl Amber Lee Ettinger

Amber Lee Ettinger is an American actress and model, but you probably know her best as Obama Girl. Ettinger is the new face of political campaigning, thanks to the viral videos that made Obama Girl a household name. Not bad for someone who only knew about Barack Obama from an Oprah Interview.

Obama girl is my alter ego. I definitely will have that name for quite some time.

Ben Relles is the creator and founder of barelypolitical.com, and he approached me with the idea in May of 2007. He played me the song which was sung by Leah Kauffman. He told me about the concept of the video, and it reminded me of a Saturday night live skit, so I was really excited to do it.

Crush On Obama

The first one was kind of funny. We shot it in the streets of Manhattan and it took about six hours and there was no script. It was me doing improv, just whatever I felt like doing at the time. That’s what kind of made the video so great - we didn’t really plan too much.

It amazes me every day how big they have gotten. Just today I was interviewed by Polish TV and French TV and a few other stations. It’s huge worldwide and it just keeps gaining popularity.

I’ve gotten to meet so many people and go to great events like the New Hampshire Primaries and the CNN Youtube debates. Actually being there and interviewing presidential candidates. Just doing things I never expected to do, it’s truly unbelievable.

This definitely thrust me into this political world and it’s been amazing. I’m no political expert and I’m learning new things every day. It’s definitely been a turn I never anticipated and I love it.

Barack Obama and John McCain

I saw Barack Obama on Oprah. I thought he was really cool and I liked what he was saying. He was a great speaker on that show, but back then before the first video, I didn’t really know much more than what I saw on Oprah.

It’s unfortunate I didn’t get to vote in the Primaries, but I will be the first person voting at the polls on November 2 for sure, and of course, there will be nonstop campaigning over here.

John McCain, on the other hand, is not my cup of tea. As for the McCain Girls, it’s funny there have been so many girls doing these videos just jumping on the candidate band wagon. It’s really quite flattering that everyone is making videos like this, because we kind of feel like we were the first to start this trend.

I definitely think the Internet is the new TV, especially with Youtube. Anyone can pick up a camera and film something and throw it up there for the world to see. I would never stop doing Internet stuff because I think it’s just going to keep growing and growing.
