Here Is Your American Idol: David Cook

Ican’t believe the level of support that has come out of me doing this crazy TV show. All I can do is try to embrace it and make all the effort people are putting into supporting me worthwhile. That starts with a record and hopefully moving down the road a tour and a lot of success. The sky’s the limit right now.

I don’t really feel like there’s any added pressure that isn’t already out there. I want to put a record out that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand out, and that stands up on it’s own long after I’m gone. If I can do that then I’m set. The covers were great but I’m ready to get back into the creative process of writing songs and basically baring my soul.

I’ll probably put out a rock record just because that’s the type of music that I enjoy playing. But that was the exciting thing for me during the show. I loved knowing that there were things that I could do that people wouldn’t expect. On Andrew Lloyd Webber night, it was fun for me. People were like, “What!?” I’m going to try and recreate that energy on this record. I want this record to have some twists and turns on it, take people on a trip from beginning to end.

I think that number is really misleading. Obviously when you’re in the Idol bubble, it’s hard to get a vibe on what’s going on. I thought ‘Archie’ was a little bit a head of me, to be honest. There are a lot of conspiracy theories out there. I attribute the finale voting discrepancy to my fans being awesome. I don’t know how to explain it.
