Visit this Wonderful Canadian City

Welcome to Mile 300 of the Alaska Highway - home of Fort Nelson, British Columbia. Stop for the day, or stay for a while - you will remember your stay as a pleasant one. You will feel at home with the superior hospitality offered from gas attendants to restaurant servers to the friendly "hello" of people walking by.

While you are visiting, you may be interested in dining out. Fort Nelson offers plenty of great eateries dotting the small town. You have your choice of several restaurants and cafes such as The One Restaurant, Mama & Papa's Cafe, and there is even a Boston Pizza to give you that big city feeling that you may be desperate for at this point of your journey up the Alaska Highway.

What Fort Nelson Has to Offer

If you take the time to enjoy what Fort Nelson has to offer, you will be amazed at the activities and community spirit the town is overflowing with. A short walk around on a crisp winter morning you will find hoards of children of all ages outside happily playing.

The secondary school system offers programs and activities that one would not likely see in most cities, like cosmetology, esthetics and trades training. The town promotes healthy lifestyles in its youth and not-so-youth, including: walking trails, skiing - cross and down hill, right on the playgrounds of schools in town.

Northern Lights College in Fort Nelson

The college has taken on a role that many others may not have even thought to do - they recruit from elementary to high school students to oilfield workers and companies to seniors. Northern Lights College feels it has a responsibility to the community to educate, employ and support each and every individual of the town, and even to tourists who come through the town. You would be awestruck to see the amount of students that enroll each day, and who come through the doors inquiring and signing up for one of the many programs offered - there are even day programs if one wishes to gain a certificate as they pass through this strong town.

Once a month, the Fort Nelson Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Recreation Department sends out an activity guide full of fun, inexpensive activites for the entire community and its visitors to enjoy. These activities range from: Aquatic Centre programming, community events (which there are several each month of the year), fitness classes and drop-in activities for prenatal to youth to seniors and everyone in between and many other great programs.

If using energy and being a part of every community event is not your thing, there are also many places in and around Fort Nelson to find a quiet spot to reflect. Just three hours north of town you will find the majestic Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park where you may take a soak any time of the year while surrounded by nature. The quiet stillness of it all while you enjoy the shallow warm waters is soothing for the soul, body and mind alike.

Just imagine: large powerdy snowflakes falling around you, dropping in flumps off trees in the surrounding woods - a bird calls out to you. All the while you tred in warm spring water imagining the next story you will write, the next picture you will take or masterpiece you will create.

Solitude. Peace. Nature. Freedom. This is what Fort Nelson has to offer. This is why you want to be here.
