If you're about to vacation in Kenya and are wondering how you can make good use of your time and visit all the spots locals would recommend, then start with these attractions and keep in mind that if you have limited time all these attractions are within two hours of Kenya's capital.

  1. Nairobi: If you love the fast-paced city life, then Nairobi is the place for you. With a number of great restaurants serving all kinds of foods you can think of from local foods to foods from other cultures, big night clubs playing all kinds of music and upscale theatres, your nights in Nairobi will never be boring.
  2. Naivasha: For those of you who love to be outside and enjoy the mountains then a weekend in Naivasha, about an hour's drive from Nairobi, offers the famous Mt. Longonot, Hell's Gate National Park and camping with killer views.
  3. Nakuru: Home to Lake Nakuru and flamingos, this medium-sized city is great place to visit a dormant volcano known as the Menengai crater. Nakuru also has a number of wild animals that can be seen during a safari.
  4. Maasai Mara: You cannot visit Kenya without taking one of the best safaris in the world. The most popular aspect of the Maasai Mara is the great migration of wildebeast, gazelle and zebra to the Serengeti in neighboring Tanzania (a must-see for everyone).
  5. Mombasa/ Malindi: Everybody loves a nice relaxing day on the beach when vacationing and Mombasa offers the Indian Ocean where you can swim, scuba dive and sail. Mombasa is also known to have some of the best dishes is Kenya as it is the home to the Swahili tribe.

Don't let these places pass you by and check out information on hotels, lodges and camps before you leave home.
