Roughing It In The Rockies

We didn't go on a whim (the vacation had been planned for weeks) but we certainly weren't prepared for a camping trip to Canada's Rocky Mountains. We hastily printed off a Google map to help guide us from Vancouver to Calgary, threw a tent and sleeping bags in the car and took off to see what was on the other side of one of the world's most majestic mountain ranges. While others relaxed in their outdoor livingroom sets and full-amenity RVs, we roughed it in Lake Louise with our log-stump stools and burnt our marshmallows at the end of sticks plucked from the trees. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time away from the campsite, exploring everything Banff National Park has to offer. We also stopped in at the Calgary stampede - here's a glimpse of our seven-day, two-province roadtrip. ALL PHOTOS COPYRIGHT ROBYN STUBBS

Wasn't that your first time camping?

Sort of. I had gone camping with Dad when I was a kid, and Steve and I had spent a night in the bush with a pile of friends and lots of alcohol at one point (you know, the kind of camping trip when you're young and intoxicated and it doesn't really matter if you have nothing?) So in a sense, this was our first REAL camping trip as a couple... and we decided we suck at it. Maybe we'll try it again when we have kids. Maybe.

I think you'll be too busy gallivanting around Paris when you have kids...mind you, camping with kids would be easier than Paris - you can tie them to a tree.
