I often wonder why we Indians are suffering from foreign hangovers so when I heard an acquaintance of mine talking about her Hong Kong visit I could not resist having a go at her. I promptly asked her, as India has so many tourist spots, has she visited them all. She hesitatingly replied in the negative.

Indians should explore their country first and then visit other places. One of the places I recommend is Ooty. It is said to be a poor man's Switzerland, but I will definitely say it is haven for nature lovers.

It was summer vacation for my son, and after intense pressure and lobbying from family, my husband succumbed to it and got his leave sanctioned from his boss. By the time we decided to visit Ooty and Mysore, it became June.

Everybody laughed at us when we informed our relatives that we are touring Ooty.Have you taken leave of your senses my mother cried when we informed about our trip?

Summer is over and now you people are visiting Ooty stated a relative sarcastically.

We decide to play safe and as a precautionary measure took our raincoats and sweater adding to the bulk of our luggage. Even in Chennai itself the day we left for our journey we had heavy rains and our adventure started.

The auto man refused to go to central station from Adambakkam, our place of residence. He left us at Mount station and from there we proceeded by electric train. We had to wade over dirty pools and walk over marshy land praying to the Almighty that we should not trip over while we catch out train.

We finally caught our train - 'The Nilgiri Express' - and I heaved a sigh of relief. Finally after so many tribulations at last we made to this trip. As the train started moving my husband remarked, "Let us forget our problems and make this trip a really joyful one." I agreed with him and looked forward to this trip and my happiness equaled with that of my children.
