The June 29 episode of World Wrestling Entertainment's Monday Night RAW had a lot of fall out from the company's June 28 pay-per-view The Bash.
Randy Orton retained the WWE Championship at The Bash by defeating Triple H, which meant a new No. 1 contender needed to be named.
Also at The Bash, Edge and Chris Jericho shockingly won the Unified World Tag Team Titles from Carlito and Primo, and John Cena squashed The Miz rather quickly.
All of those results had a direct impact on this week's RAW.
This week's RAW "guest host" was Batista, who set up a four-wrestler 'Night of Champions Tournament' where the winner of the tournament would face Randy Orton at the Night of Champions pay-per-view.
The opening contest was Triple H defeating MVP. This match was horrible. Triple H spent much of the match selling the effects of his brutal contest with Orton the night before, which allowed MVP to dominate the match and hit a lot of big moves. But in the end, Triple H countered one move, hit the Pedigree, and pinned MVP. It was just a very boring match with a poor finish.
The second match in the tournament was a rematch from The Bash between The Miz and John Cena. This match was a pretty even encounter, but there just didn't seem to be any doubt that Cena would prevail to set up a one-on-one match against Triple H in the finals.
After being surprise entrants and victors in the Unified World Tag Team Titles match at The Bash, Edge and Chris Jericho wrestled the former champions Carlito and Primo in what was easily the match of the night.
All four wrestlers worked very well together. Carlito and Primo pulled off some amazing spots, while Edge and Jericho are just solid every time they wrestle.
In the end, Edge pinned Carlito after a spear to retain the tag team titles. Afterward, they teased a breakup between Carlito and Primo. While I think it would benefit Carlito to get pushed as a singles wrestler again, I'm worried that Primo would get lost on the roster and not have a solid singles career.
This week's show also featured a fairly entertaining Divas Fatal Four-Way Match to determine the No. 1 Contender for Maryse's Divas Title between Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendes.
Both Mickie and Kelly were highly impressive throughout the contest, while Beth was solid and Rosa held her own. Mickie won the match with a DDT on Rosa.
At the top of the show, Vince McMahon announced a big 15 wrestler trade had been made between RAW, ECW and Smackdown.
Three of RAW's wrestlers turned out to be Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger and Mark Henry, all coming over from ECW.
Batista forced Randy Orton to wrestle those three in a Gauntlet Match. Orton pinned Bourne at the start, then beat Swagger by count out when Swagger refused to wrestle Orton.
But Henry actually pinned the WWE Champion much to the delight of the crowd.
I think it is a great idea to push Henry again and push him as a babyface. He should be able to get over with the crowd, and adds another fresh face to the WWE Championship contenders picture.
