Paulo Thiago at 11-0-0, is about to have only his second fight in the UFC. After defeating Josh Koscheck in February with what was coined the "knock-out of the night", Thiago will try his hand against Jon Fitch at UFC 100.
Jon Fitch at 22-3-1, and ranked #2 in his division (MMA Weekly), has defeated the "who's who" of the MMA world: Shonie Carter, Josh Burkman, Thiago Alves, Diego Sanchez and most recently Akihiro Gono. Fitch even had a shot at the title in August of '08 against Georges St-Pierre, but fell on the short side of a decision.
Fitch was able to tie Royce Gracie's record of 8 consecutive UFC wins and was one short of tying Anderson Silva for the record before the loss to St-Pierre.
In this fight we'll see if Paulo Thiago is truly undefeated, or just untested. In Thiago's eleven fights, he has been able to finish the fight quickly 9 times and has only gone the distance twice.
Jon Fitch has heard the final bell in 9 of his 26 fights, and has gone the distance in every fight for the past 2 years. If this fight goes the full 3 rounds, we may see another fighter lose their undefeated status to Jon Fitch.
Conditioning may not be the only concern for Thiago; experience is also a significant factor in this fight. Fitch has faced more than twice the number of fighters and many of these fighters have been top shelf competition. Thiago was the big fish in a small pond, but may find things are different in the Ocean that is the UFC.
