Can a second ankle lock bring down the monster?
At 12-3-0, Frank Mir, currently the interim champion, is set to battle it out with Brock Lesnar for the undisputed heavyweight championship at UFC 100. In their only previous meeting on the 2nd of February 2008, Mir, despite taking some solid blows to the face, managed to recover and submit Lesnar at 1:30 of the first round.
Lesnar, who has only had 3 other fights including a TKO victory over hall-of-famer Randy "The Natural" Couture, will be relying on his size, wrestling ability and athleticism to stop the faster Frank Mir in his attempt to lock up the title.
Mir, currently ranked # 3 in the world, has made short work of his last three opponents, submitting two in the 1st round -1 by kimura at 1:17 and 1 by knee-bar at 1:30 - out-punching Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to defeat him in the 2nd minute of the 2 round.
If the fighters stay on their feet, Mir should win if he can avoid the generally slow, heavy hands of Lesnar. If the fight goes to the ground, Lesner will need to remember to keep all his limbs close to the body and under his own control, because if Mir gets hold of an arm or a leg, this could prove to be another short night for former WWE champ. A victory would solidify Mir as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
