In case you hadn't heard, David Beckham's name has changed again. It's not 'Becks' anymore. 'Goldenballs' is sooo old now. He's now 'D-Beck.'

Who is responsible for this latest nickname? None other than Snoop Dogg himself, nephew. Apparently Tha Doggfather wasn't keen on Beckham's other names: "Snoop thought the name David was a bit boring and wasn't too impressed by Becks either," said a source. "Now Posh is calling him D-Beck too."

So, who are we to argue? D-Beck it is. And he had some other good news in the last week, with users on website www.ThePeoplesClub.com voting him as the Sexiest Footballer On The Planet.

Second place in the worldwide poll of 4,000 women went to former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, while Henry's former Arsenal team-mate Freddie Ljungberg came in at number three. Cristiano Ronaldo is as popular with the ladies as his sexy style of football is with Manchester United fans, as he came fourth and Liverpool's Spanish pin-up Fernando Torres finished off the top five.

But it was D-Beck who came out on top and Simon Lassam from the website, which enables fans to own a professional football club - said: "The survey results show the British public have an eye for who's hot on the football pitch and that it's not just British Premiership players that are catching their eye. They've picked a real multi-cultural mix, perhaps reflecting the amount of influence other countries have on our football these days. It shows David Beckham hasn't lost his sex appeal - he's loved for his looks, style and ball skills, despite having gone all Hollywood on us."

Anyone doubting Beckham's continuing appeal to the ladies need only look to Saturday's events in LA, where he attended rapper Jermaine Dupri's pre-Grammys party and gave one adoring fan a peck on the cheek, only for her to faint from the excitement of it all.

Seemingly this happens a lot, as one onlooker explained: "When the girl came up to him and he kissed her on the cheek she just passed clean out! But David looked like it was an ordinary everyday thing. He just said, 'Get her some water. She'll be okay'."

Even though Posh Spice wasn't with him - she's still on tour with the Spice Girls - Becks lapped up the atmosphere and celeb-fuelled fun of the party, hosted by Dupri and his girlfriend Janet Jackson, with a source saying: "Beckham rolled in at about 1a.m. He looked like he was having a great time hanging out, talking and dancing with Jermaine and Janet." Pre-season training with LA Galaxy must really be taking its toll on poor D-Beck, eh?

Sadly, with Posh so far away, it will be a lonely Valetine's Day for both of the Beckhams. She explained: "This is the first time since we got married in 1999 that we haven't been together on Valentine's Day. It will be very sad." But of course, that won't stop them splashing out ludicrous sums on gifts for each other and speculation in the gossip rags suggests that diamonds rings, spa trips, flying lessons and gardening shears could be exchanged. In case you were interested...

Meanwhile, there are reports that the Beckhams could be set to follow the celeb trend of adoption in a bid to get Posh the one accessory that money has not - yet - been able to buy. A daughter. A source said: "Adoption is something David has been talking about for some time. David feels they are a very privileged family and they should be able to share their good fortune. He loves being a dad and helping kids.

"If there is one subject that can move him to tears, it's the thought of being unloved, uncared for and with no hope or future. Victoria loves kids and it is her dream to have a little girl. It is early days but it's looking likely." And it's looking like Tom Cruise might be having his say: "Tom has talked to David about how adoption changed him and how he's been able to change the lives of two amazing children.

"Since they've been living in Los Angeles, the Beckhams have met people for whom adoption is a reality and they feel it is the right time to explore their options. Tom has told him about how much pleasure he has gained from raising his two adopted children, Connor and Isabella." Perhaps Tom can source a good young Scientologist baby girl for his showbiz buddies? We're sure he's got the connections to arrange that...

THE BIG 100 REARS ITS HEAD AGAIN

It's the issue that just won't go away, and one that Fabio Capello is already getting sick of. Will David Beckham get his 100th cap for England? Well, it's looking likely that he will at some point. Capello admitted as much this week, saying that D-Beck could be in his next squad: "Surely he will have played friendly matches and those will be important. If he is fit and ready to play then he will be part of my team. It seems that the most important thing is whether I choose David Beckham. I think we should focus on England." Nice try, Fabio...

However, Becks won't have played any competitive matches by that next match against France in March, and if that doesn't work out, reports at the weekend suggested a perfect opportunity for Beckham's big day. After Scotland pulled out of a planned match against England at Wembley in May, the FA are apparently lining up a friendly against the USA. It would certainly make for a great story if England's football ambassador to the States picked up his 100th cap against them, wouldn't it?

Meanwhile, pre-season preparations continue at the Galaxy, and D-Beck (are you getting sick of this yet?) told his official website that things are going well after the arrival of new boss Ruud Gullit and new signings Carlos Ruiz and Celestine Babayaro: "On Saturday and Sunday every player had to undergo fitness tests, and I feel good for the start of the new season. There is a real sense of excitement here with Ruud at the helm and players like Carlos and Celestine arriving."
