Oregon didn't think things could get worse after being dominated by Boise State in an NCAA Football game, but they ultimately did when starting running back LaGarrette Blount decided to vent his frustration in a violent manner. After being taunted, Blount sucker punched opposing Boise State player Byron Hout, letting his anger get the best of him.
Blount's rampage was not over after the punch as he was later seen pushing a fellow Oregon player with fury. Making matters worse Blount's meltdown spilled into the stands after being verbally taunted by Boise State fans.
Fortunately, nobody was injured, besides the Boise State player with a sore chin.
Unfortunately, for Blount, he was suspended today from the football team for the remainder of his senior season.
Oregon will now continue the rest of the season without arguably their best offensive weapon. However, by suspending Blount, the athletic department is able to save face in attempt to remove some of the negative publicity they are getting from this incident.
It was rumored that Blount could grade out as high as a 2nd or 3rd round pick in next year's NFL draft, but with this flip out, he could find himself on the outside looking in as far as the National Football League is concerned. Blount does, however, have 8 months to try and restore his name, which could be easier said than done, he has already been suspended once for academic issues.
Blount did apologize for his actions, but the running back will be lucky if he is not hit with assault charges stemming from this incident. Byron Hout, who taunted Blount will not face any disciplinary action from Boise State.
