Nascar Allows Jeremy Mayfield to Race

Suspended Driver Has Hearing Postponed

Has Nascar crossed the line by allowing the return of once-suspended driver Jeremy Mayfield back on the racetrack? With this decision, some feel Nascar has jeopardized the safety of not only the drivers on the racetrack but also the crew members on pit road as well.

Jeremy Mayfield's Racing Career

Throughout his career, Jeremy Mayfield has been an outstanding and clean driver who has kept his cool and had not been a troublemaker, but when you violate rules and policy that are set up to protect the safety of the other drivers, you should have to face the consequences.

Six teams have denied Jermey Mayfield's request to drive for them in the Coca Cola 400 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

There are a lot of mixed emotions in the garage in Daytona, concerning Jeremy Mayfield. Carl Edwards siad, "I'll wait and see what will happen before I comment on it, but I feel a 100% safe racing against all of those drivers out there on the racetrack."

While Jeff Burton had this to say regarding Jeremy Mayfield, "With Nascar allowing him (Jeremy Mayfield) to race, that puts my life and safety and risk...."

Bottom line and what it comes down to is safety. These drivers are going over 150 mph around the racetrack and having someone out there who has violated a drug use policy puts their lives in danger. He may not be driving high, but can anyone know for sure what's in his system?

You bring up some good arguments but you fail to realize that he will not be on drugs while he's driving. You state that he is a danger to everyone on the track but your implying that he will be on the drugs while he's racing. I agree that a policy should be enforced when it's a rule, but basing your article on how dangerous he could be this weekend is a mute argument. He will NOT be racing high on meth. Plain and simple. Also, it wasn't NASCAR's call on this. The court ruled that he could race until the hearing could be heard.
