The Atlanta Braves poured it on the Philadelphia Phillies as the home team stomped the Phillies 11-1 at Turner Field Stadium in Atlanta Georgia.

Jair Jurrjens was the starting pitcher tonight for the Atlanta Braves, and he came very close to throwing a no-hitter until the Phillies batting squad managed a hit in the top of the 7th inning.

Jurrjens Bounces Back after Tough June

Jair Jurrjens had a rough month of June, but he started July with a big win over the top team in the National League. Another win by Atlanta, and the braves will leapfrog the World Series Champs for the top spot in the National League.

The Atlanta Braves have had an up and down first half of the season, but they're starting to show they can be a team to be reckoned with, and the rest of the league should take notice. Their biggest strength lies in their starting pitching and bullpen.

In the past few years, the Atlanta Braves have had to fight for a wild card spot, and in many cases have failed to make the playoffs. If they continue to play like this, they should be a contender.
