With lavish weddings, sun-kissed holidays and endless rounds of golf now just a distant memory, Premier League players have returned to their clubs to stroll through some friendly matches against lower league clubs or foreign minnows. It's the time to show off new players and new kits, and the first chance for fans to build-up crazy expectations for the new season...

Manchester United 0 Juventus 0
Youngsters Rafael da Silva and Rodrigo Possebon impressed as Manchester United's pre-season preparations came to an end at Old Trafford. The Premier League and Champions League trophies were displayed before kick-off and fittingly for what was essentially United's victory parade Sir Alex Ferguson started with a strong squad, with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Carlos Tevez playing. United therefore looked the sharper of the two sides, but no-one could find a way through and the game finished in deadlock.

Next game: Portsmouth (N) (Community Shield) Sunday 10th August

Huddersfield 1 Arsenal 2
A young Arsenal side performed a spirited late comeback at Huddersfield as the Gunners' successful pre-season continued. The match was set-up to celebrate the hosts' centenary, but it didn't really spark until the 75th minute when Huddersfield took the lead through James Berrett's deflected strike. It took just four minutes for the Gunners to level up though as Sanchez Watt converted Jay Simpson's pass, before Nacer Barazite sealed the victory three minutes from time with a neat and composed finish.

Next game: Ajax (A) (Amsterdam Tournament) Friday 8th August

Celtic 1 Manchester City 1
Martin Petrov continued his impressive pre-season form by scoring the opener in Manchester City's 1-1 draw at Celtic. Reported Tottenham target Vedran Corluka started in a strong City squad which saw Valeri Bojinov and Darius Vassell start up-front. And both players were involved in the build-up to the first goal, which culminated in Petrov smashed home in typically emphatic fashion eight minutes into the second half.
