According to police reports, Bourdon lost control of his motorcycle on a road near his home around 12:30 P.M. on Thursday. He reportedly struck a tractor-trailer and was killed instantly.
The young defenseman appeared in twenty-seven games this season for the Vancouver Canucks. He was their 2005 first-round draft pick, selected 10th overall. He split his season between the Canucks and their American Hockey League team, the Manitoba Moose. He was a part of the 2006 and 2007 gold-winning World Junior Championship teams.
"Luc was an extremely passionate young man who was just on the cusp of being rewarded for all the hard work that he put in," Canucks Vice President and Assistant General Manager Steve Tambellini said. "He was just starting to show his character in the NHL. This is a very, very sad day."
