Sticky Situation

Carl Edwards receives stiff penalty from NASCAR.

At what time is the point made that you can't, under any circumstances, cheat to win in this sport? I mean, that's against everything that this sport is about. Right? '

NASCAR makes the best of sticky situations and Martin Truex, Jr. may have just put himself in one.

I think NASCAR made a pretty good move with Carl Edwards team. 100 points hurts no matter how you spin it, but I still think when it comes to changing the car to gain a competitive edge illegally, it should be bigger.

For instance, I think taking the 10 points he gained for the win if he makes the Chase would mean more. Maybe even taking the trophy. It seems harsh but at what time is the point made that you can't, under any circumstances, cheat to win in this sport? I mean, that's against everything that this sport is about. Right?

In other penalty news, NASCAR made the clever decision to rescind the point penalty on Robby Gordon but fine him more money. Now, I'm not sure that makes it any easier to run his business, but at least it doesn't take him out of the top 35, which probably would put an end to his business if he began not making races. In a sticky situation, I think it was a good move. But more needs to be researched and looked into to see what happened there, to make sure it doesn't happen again.

And lastly, just because since he talked about it last night I've gotten more emails than I'd like to about Martin Truex, Jr, racing for JRM/Hendrick Motorsports in the Busch series at Bristol, I'll just say this: I'm not sure why, or even if, Teresa Earnhardt allowed this to happen with her history with HMS and Dale Jr. I'm not sure if Martin is playing hardball with her, or if he's already decided to leave. I will say that I don't think HMS is the right place for Martin, (as all of the rumor-heads and dreamers out there have been saying).
