First off I hope everyone is ready for the new NASCAR season. I know I sure am!
After four months of the pathetic excuse for a sport that we call "Football" dominating the TV, it is now time for the biggest spectator sport in the world to return for a new season.
Did I mention I am going to be there? YEAH! I'm going to the Daytona 500.
So let's start the predictions...
Dale Jr. 1st.
Jimmie or Jeff 2nd.
JGR isn't going to run too well with the toys that they call cars.
RCR will be a strong contender.
Stay tuned.

Re: Get Ready To Rev! It's NASCAR Time
By luyen, February 16, 2008 at 00:58I'd like to know what Nascar fans love about Nascar racing - since it's totally foreign to me, obviously there's some appeal, does it require attending one in person to know what that is (i.e. noise, smells, beer and nachos?, like baseball?)
I use to watch Formula 1 , and i have to say that was pretty neat !

By Brandon, February 16, 2008 at 11:11185 miles per hour in traffic, nose to tail with 42 other cars on a 2 and half mile track, any wrong move a fiery collision and 150,000 screaming fans. 5 hours of grueling competition at mind-boggling speeds. Anyone who thinks they could last a second on one of these tracks is fooling themselves. What these drivers do is a thousand times more difficult than any other racing competition and racing is a thousand times more difficult than any other sport. There is only a very small handful of people that are capable of this.
My suggestion is, pick a favourite car - usually one you like the look of and cheer for it through one whole race. Actually watch a race. Every critic of the event seems to watch thirty seconds and say - it's no good. It's an acquired taste. And like all acquired tastes, once you've got it - you love the stuff. See beer, marriage, and black licorice.

By aftaab, February 17, 2008 at 12:37If I was interested in top speeds then Formula 1 would be my sport of choice. At least they get to turn right once in a while. I just find it so monotonous to watch cars go round an oval track. As for the screaming fans, I’ll wager that many of them scream loudest when the fast and dizzying traffic comes to a halt in a great big pile up. As for picking a car, I can’t even tell what kind of car it is to be honest and I have little brand loyalty to the marques that are involved even if I have to rely on the livery to inform me of its origin. Giving it thirty seconds is generous - five hours and I’d lose my will to live.
The World Rally Championship is contested worldwide and has a cult-like following. The cars are recognizable as everyday street cars with a horsepower cap at 300BHP. They are limited to four cylinders. Despite these minor limitations, they are very quick, nimble and versatile and can be set up to deal with every kind of road surface imaginable. Many of the innovations we see in street cars had their inception due to rally, for example the widely available Quattro all wheel drive system. The terrain varies from the snow in Sweden to the asphalt around Monte Carlo, the gravel in Mexico to the fast long sweeping stages of Finland renowned for its jumps, corners and treacherous tight, windy forest roads. The best part is that there’s no traffic and the roads are closed to vehicle traffic so the drivers can concentrate on what they do better than anyone in the world - driving!
So here’s my top ten list of what I’d rather be doing than watching NASCAR:
1. Pull nose hairs with a pair of tweezers
2. Watch reruns of Jerry Springer endlessly
3. Watch Taladega Nights over and over again for the duration of the average NASCAR event
4. Listen to George Bush speak for 5 hours - actually, in that case I might grab myself a corn dog, pop open a Shlitz and watch NASCAR with you
5. Sit through one of Tom Cruise’s gushing sermons on Scientology
6. Watch WWF
7. Sit at local laundromat watching clothes tumble dry all afternoon
8. Take up curling
9. Sit in Traffic
10. Drive round in circles for 5 hours
Re: Get Ready To Rev! It's NASCAR Time
By aftaab, February 15, 2008 at 13:37Bill, as a fellow motorsport enthusiast I appreciate your passion for NASCAR, however, I find it to be the dullest motorsport on the planet. I subscribe to SPEED TV which used to carry what I believe to be the most incredible motorsport today, the World Rally Championship. Unfortunately they canceled coverage without so much as a word to subscribers and I now inadvertently support NASCAR as a result which I find very hard to swallow. I wish that Rupert Murdoch's organization would come clean and just call it NASCAR TV which is pretty much all they show 24/7. Watching cars go round in circles makes my dizzy ...

By Melkor, February 14, 2008 at 14:20Have fun Bill! But it is Penske's year this year (that's right, the dreaded blue deuce will be number one).
