The roads by me had a thin layer of ice on them so I headed over to NYC early to be sure I had plenty of time to take care of my special mission. As I got closer to NYC, the freezing rain turned to a light rain. I also received a very cool call telling me that I will be on the gold list to see Lenny tape for the Letterman show on Tuesday.
It seemed like that no matter how bad the weather was, God was making sure to pass some sunshine my way. I got to the venue and went inside and said hello to the crew. Now these guys are not just a crew, but some damn good musicians as well and it's always fun to watch them set stuff up. Alex, Lenny's guitar tech, has a wicked sense of humor. At times he was busting on the vocals as well as playing the guitar with a drumstick!
After getting some great laughs, it was time for the band to hit the stage so out into the wet and cold I went. I knew something was up when I saw Harold come out after a few minutes and take a wet stroll to the music store for some stuff. I saw Lenny's tour manager show up by himself about 10 minutes after that and gave him the letters because Lenny was sick with 102 fever and there was no sound check. I talked with Craig for a few seconds and Harold again as well before I went and got in line as all the deliveries I needed to make were done.
The line looked like a Technicolor umbrella stand.
