The 17-year-old David Archuleta might not have taken the top spot of this season's American Idol, but being the runner up isn't so bad. The tiny crooner with the silky voice is already fielding offers from record labels looking for his signature. While he's ready for the big time, he still has to worry about normal teenage things: girls and school.

Cook deserved it. He proved it week after week. He’s such a great guy too. My main priority wasn’t to win the competition but to do my best. You can suck and people can vote enough for you to win, and that wouldn’t feel too good. We both gave it our all. We both poured it all onto that stage Tuesday night and we both feel great.

Not winning the competition won’t limit me from creating an album. The competition is all over, and now is the time to really focus on music. This has been such a great opportunity to open doors that weren’t available before all this happened. I don’t think there is any reason to be disappointed in making it to the top two.

This whole thing has lasted so long; the first audition was in January, and we hadn’t been living at home since the beginning of February. We’ve been working every week. As the weeks went on we had more songs to learn, and this final week was the busiest of all. It was hard to find time even to rehearse along with school and everything else.

On that Tuesday night I just tried to make sure I didn’t regret anything I did. It was such a relief to feel good about the last impression I gave.

School's Not For Stars, Is It?

I’d like to keep trying to do school while I work on music, that’s kind of what I’ve been doing through the show, every day I still have to do school. Even after this interview I have to go to school. School’s really important. It was my main priority before this because I wasn’t sure if I’d go anywhere in music.
