Hauntings, Exorcism, Demonic Possession and Mediums
When I founded the Paranormal Research Society, our goal quickly went from just trying to document paranormal experiences to trying to help people cope with, and understand, their own experiences. Paranormal State on A&E was born of a student-run club at Penn State University. It consists of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and town residents with various religious and cultural beliefs. Our ultimate goal is to find scientific and spiritual answers to questions about the unknown.
1) What role does skepticism play in your work?
It doesn't always come across this way on the show, but I'm actually a big skeptic. However, just because I don't believe a client is experiencing the paranormal doesn't take away from the fact that THEY believe they are being haunted.
I often can't prove it there's the presence of the paranormal, but I also can't disprove the individual's claims. Using a medium or doing a house cleaning might resolve the problem if they are being haunted, and that attempt might be enough to relieve the clients. I always encourage critical thinking.
2) When was the last time you were scared?
On one cae a client's child threatened to stab me. It was possible he was under demonic influence. That scared me for a moment because I was warned by two psychics before going into the case that they sensed a possible stabbing.
3) Why are children more likely to see dead people?
Children are more open; they haven't yet learned to ignore unusual experiences. As we grow up, we learn that supernatural experiences are taboo and not to be talked about. We start to rationalize everything and ignore the possibility that something unexplained is happening.
In the first episode, "Sixth Sense," a boy claimed to see dead people. We were concerned that it was an over-active imagination or a mental condition, but we were able to rule most of that out before conducted the investigation by talking to his medical specialists.
4) Why might a spirit torment the living?
Well, why do human beings torment one another? Fear, jealousy, anger. In theory, we believe that most spirits remain because they don't know they're dead or that they're denying their physical death so they remain behind and try to continue to participate in the physical world.
5) What are demons?
Demons are intelligent beings, an organized entity whose main objective is to seek the ruin of souls. When it comes to driving out spirits, we prefer to bring in outside expertise. In the episode, "Devil in Syracuse," we had a layman demonologist, Keith Johnson, and medium, Chip Coffey, conduct a Deliverance (a lesser-form of exorcism that can be conducted by laymen). We have had priests and pastors conduct spirit cleansings.
6) How has the TV show changed your work?
A full production crew attempted to understand PRS and document our investigations and cram it into a 22-minute television show. Critics have rallied around two key points - the demonic and the "lack of evidence and investigating."
Some people don't realize that this show isn't about finding evidence, which doesn't mean that we don't conduct a thorough investigation, but there's not enough time in a 22-minute show to feature every aspect. We've been doing this for over six years. Our investigations take anywhere from one to five days.
7) When you die, what place will you haunt?
If I die, I would like to haunt the PRS institute building. I would like to be a legend future investigators revere and I'll be able to keep a close watch on the investigators I've left behind..

You really need to cool those loins tracy. Ryan he most like is too busy chasing his phantoms and his demon that is so called chasing him. In any event Ryan is you are reading this you need to find a new show. I do paranormal investigations myself and really we only use absolute readings for equipment, not phantom noises, which really sound like you are doing them yourselves not actual sounds at all. we do not jump and scream and shout did you see that then a camera pans over and there is nothing and then we have to only take your word for it. there is no scientific bases for any of your shows, they are really badly scripted too, lets do one quick show right now, you show up on the scene, you get the story, then you give a speech to your crew, you may show some clipings from new papers about the issue. Then we do a walk around where that rediculous psychic coffee gets a bad feeling, and tells everyone how he feels like he was just punched in the stomach. Then we have a dead time or 2 where we hear some silly phantom sounds and you flash around that really cool but wasted thermal camera which never shows anything, please send it to me as we really could put it to good use for real. Then you get everyone back to gether make up some really scary fake issue how you are freaked out and want to put an end to it, then you do a simple prayer and say a couple of OUR FATHERS, and boom bang the ghost or demon is gone like that, everyone smiles and the show ends. Wow that sums it all up and every show it the same, you never show any concrete evidance.
Hi Ryan! i was wondering if you would be able to anser some of my questions about the paranormal? everytime i ask someone or tell someone they dont belive me. i was out with my friend and i took my camera so she was taking pictures of me and when i got home i notice that in every single picture she took there are like little white circles in them. i thought i was just dreaming but when i took another look and inlarged it there was like a girl standing beside me. i told my mom but she didnt belive me and they only show up in the pictures.
