And Enhance Your Eye Shape

If you have green or hazel eyes, accent green and gold flecks with blue-based lilac, soft plums and pink shadows. Warm lavender shades are also good, for both are on the periphery of the red color family, which is almost green's opposite. Avoid true red shadows (like brick or burgundy) or you'll overwhelm your eyes.

For those with blue or gray eyes, use a shadow that has hints of the opposite color family: orange. This group includes colors like chocolate, bronze and gold as well as neutral colors like taupe and vivid shades like tangerine. If you have gray eyes, you can also use shadow colors with brown undertones and neutrals.

Brown eyes will look great in a variety of shades, but to really make them pop, use a blue-based shadow. Since blue is in the closest opposite color family, it makes brown eyes stunning. Choose a rich cobalt, navy or violet. You can also use soft greens, ambers or khakis that contrast with your eye color, adding instant depth.

Makeup by Eye Shape

Almond-shaped eyes are considered to be perfectly proportioned; any makeup technique will work.

If you have hooded eyes, a fold of skin hangs over the socket line (this can occur with aging). Use matte colors in medium to dark and keep your eye makeup simple.

Protruding eyes will have a bulge from the socket to the lash and can be difficult to work with. The best way to shade this shape is to use dark matte colors.

Deep-set eyes are just that, deep into the socket with a small mobile lid. Apply light colors on the lid, with a deeper color on and just above the socket line, blending up and out.

If you have downturned eyes, you'll want to shade up and out. Apply the liner close to the upper lash line and blend shadow along the socket line in the outer corners. Curling lashes and applying mascara can also help to lift this shape.

Eyes that are narrower than one eye width are regarded as close-set. Use light colors on the inner corners and extend the outer corners using dark colors. Line outer corners using mascara to the outer lashes of the upper lid.

Makeup by Hair Color

If you have blonde to light brown hair, your best eye brow shade will be light brown.

For redheads, your best brow shade is auburn.

And if you have deep chestnut, dark brown or black hair, go with dark brown for your brow shade.
