There’s a great deal of fascination with crystal skulls, even going back to the 1800s when the British Museum and the museum in Paris first acquired their crystal skulls.
There are many supernatural stories about crystal skulls, and there is no doubt at all that a number of unusual physical effects happen around these skulls. Even at the British Museum and Smithsonian, people noticed strange effects around them.
Allegedly the British Museum skull would glow, move by itself and would just light up. It was said that the cleaning staff didn’t like to clean around the skull, and they preferred to put a cloth over it while they worked at night. The Mitchell Hedges skull glowed, and people would say there were unusual smells like flowers coming from it.
A number of people who own crystal skulls believe they have psychic conversations with the crystal skulls, and the skulls allegedly tell psychics their names. Stuff like that is typical, but difficult to confirm. Psychic impressions are simply that, impressions, but I’m very open minded on the subject.
Even though some of these skulls may be modern forgeries - these things are over 140 years old – when you have massive crystal like that, carved or not, you’re probably going to get some kind of effect.
Recent studies at the Smithsonian and the British Museum have indicated that there are tool marks on some of these skulls. What they discovered, using really powerful microscopes, were small scratches that were made by a power drill. What they’re saying is that at least some of the crystal skulls were made in relatively modern times, mid to late-1800s.
It’s a little disappointing to find out that some of these crystal skulls may well be more modern than ancient, but there definitely are ancient skulls. What some of these museums are starting to discover is that it’s not easy to make one of these.
Ancient civilizations such as the Mayans allegedly didn’t have metal tools. For them to actually make a polished crystal skull would be difficult. These people had a higher technology than we give them credit.
In Mexico you will see crystal skulls on display, though they aren’t life sized. Those ones are generally a few inches high. But we know that the ancient people did carve and make crystal skulls.
One of the things that’s unusual about the skulls is the motif. The idea of having a life size human skull that is very accurate and carved is a rather grim sort of image, even though the majority of skulls are said to be friendly rather than evil. Some people gave these skulls a dark, occult nature, where they were used for things like sacrifice or evil priesthoods.
The idea that mankind made these life size skulls of crystal is a fascinating concept. Why would they want to make skulls out of crystal? Quartz is a very unusual material, and crystal skulls are very difficult to make. Carving out of quartz crystal is very, very hard. Only diamonds and a few other things have a hardness that is more than quartz crystal. The actual carving in itself is indicative of a pretty high technology. You would need special tools to do that.
Quartz is essentially nature’s own computer. Today we use crystals in all kinds of scientific devices like watches, LCDs et cetera. Even NASA tries to grow quartz crystals in space so they can have perfect crystals to use in experiments.
You can store information in a quartz crystal much like a DVD. Crystals pick up sights and sounds and memories, and even develop a consciousness of their own in a way. At certain times of the day, depending on who’s around, these crystals can be activated and discharge information that is stored in them.
The Indiana Jones Factor
I think it’s great the new Indiana Jones movie has crystal skulls as part of the plot. The whole thing is a fascinating subject. Why people would make crystal skulls, where they were found, some of the weird things that happen around them...there is just no question that there are bizarre effects and stories associated with crystal skulls.
I’m sure that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are making the movie just for entertainment. From what I know about the plot, the crystal skulls are some kind of alien artifact. I’m sure the background of some of the material will be based on some real incident or artifacts, and the crystal skulls are totally real. There’s no question about it.
Where they came from, who made them, what they were used for? These are the big questions.
