Being on the show is something I’ll never forget. This experience hasn’t hindered my passion for the industry whatsoever. Even though I didn’t win or get as far as I’d hoped, it has still changed my life in a strange way – I was chosen out of 6,000 girls so I do feel like I have something and it’s up to me to drive what I do have.
To be fair, I think the show edited me quite well. They could have shown people agreeing with the judges and saying ‘she’s cross-eyed and too harsh,’ but they made it look like, ‘she had a really good look, why didn’t she go further?’ It really could have gone either way.
When I entered the competition I felt like myself. But gradually throughout the show, I got a little knocked in my confidence with the cross-eyed thing. I think it’s just the shape of my face. My eyes are quite sunken in and my nose is quite prominent, so the shape of my face will turn my eye in quicker than someone who’s got a flat nose and quite big eyes.
A Little Help From My Friends
My birthday was fantastic. I was quite shocked about how emotional I got about it! Watching it now, it appeared quite silly but at the time I was so taken aback. I didn’t feel like I’d done well that day on the Ferrari shoot, so to come home and see everything laid out and ready was so unexpected and so lovely of all the girls. And most of them took part in organizing it so it shows they’re not all as bitchy and awful as they sometimes appear!
I made 13 other friends out of this experience. I’m still really interested in the show, and even though I’m not in it, the rest of the girls are still my friends and I do want to watch it. I really don’t know who is going to win… we were all so different and we’re all winners in different markets. There’s not one girl there that really hits all four corners, so it really depends on what they’re looking for this year.
Onwards And Upwards
I definitely want to pursue modeling, so if Jay Manuel wants to hook me up, let me know – I’d definitely be up for some coaching!
I’m also recognized in public now, which is really strange! People that I’ve never seen before in my life come up to me and say, ‘Oh, Lauren, I saw you on last night’s show!’ And once they’ve said that, they don’t know what else to say to me because we just don’t know each other and there’s one of those awkward silences!
