Preamble:

Anyone who reads my articles on a regular basis will have noticed that I haven't had much to say lately about the presidential race, despite lots of fireworks on the campaign trail. It's not that I don't have opinions about what's going on, but rather I have become so sickened by the overall spectacle that I just can't get myself to engage with it anymore.

Body:

Barack Obama's recent observations that many working-class citizens are bitter as a result of feeling abandoned by our government is the most obvious, straightforward truth imaginable, yet Hillary Clinton and her band of spin-meisters saw an opportunity to distort his comments and continue their attempts to make Obama such a damaged-goods candidate that their assertions that he "can't win" will actually become true.

As pretty much everyone realizes by now, this is the only conceivable way that Clinton could still win the nomination.

Thus we have seen for the thousandth time that Hillary Clinton has no principles, no loyalty to her party, and will do absolutely anything (including risking handing the White House to an insane warmonger) if there is the slightest chance that it will enable her to augment her own power.

But, none of this is new. We knew all of this already, so what point is there in commenting on it? If you're still on the Hillary bandwagon, you've clearly long ago turned off your brain, either because you think it's time a woman becomes President, or because you're a racist, or because you're simply too stupid or lazy to properly inform yourself about the issues.

There is simply no gray area here anymore. It is not possible for a sane, reasonable, decent person to still support Hillary unless he/she has simply chosen the path of willful ignorance.

Turning to John McCain, the brave war hero proved his mettle yet again today by taking the courageous step of arguing for a suspension of the gasoline tax (so as to not cause all those poor folks who can't afford to gas up their SUVs, ATVs, RVs, and motor-boats to have to cancel their well-deserved summer vacations).

Three cheers for McCain for having the balls to argue for a tax cut in an election year! If his years as a POW didn't serve to prove his worth, this latest action should leave no doubt. Never mind the fact that he's proven himself to be a corrupt politician for sale to the highest bidder (e.g. the Keating Five Scandal) or that he offers the prospect of at least four more years of belligerent, wrong-headed, murderous foreign policy.

Never mind that we can't get the job done in Iraq (whatever the job was to begin with – does anyone even remember?) and that our military and national finances are in shambles. Why should that stop us from going to war with a much more formidable adversary in Iran? Hey, as long as there are enough people out there who will vote for anyone who waves a flag and shouts, "America, love it or leave it!", there will be politicians who will pander to these jingoistic instincts. But again, none of this is new. We knew all of this already.

The picture is crystal-clear. We have three candidates for President. One is an unprincipled, corrupt liar. Another is a deluded, corrupt warmonger. And the third is a somewhat unknown quantity – a man who seems to have integrity and good ideas, but who occasionally puts his foot in his mouth.

How is there any doubt whatsoever about which of the three is the best choice? And again, none of this is new. We knew all of this already. And that's why you haven't heard from me in a while and may not hear from me for a while to come. What is the point?
