It is overwhelmingly likely at this point that the next President of the United States will be either John McCain, Hillary Clinton, or Barack Obama.
The first two are, in my opinion, completely disqualified from any legitimate claim to moral authority due to their criminal complicity with the unjustified war in Iraq.
If we elect either McCain or Clinton, we will be saying to the world that we approve of what has been done in our names. We will be condoning the murders of hundreds of thousands of human beings for the sole purpose of promoting our own national agenda. If that is an accurate reflection of the state of the American mind, I don't know if I can continue to consider myself an American.
Therefore, I have chosen to do the one thing in my power that might actually make a difference. Today I made a substantial contribution to Barack Obama's campaign. Obama was not my first choice among the Democratic candidates, but he is infinitely preferable to either John McCain or Hillary Clinton, and I feel it is my duty to put my money where my mouth is.
Unlike Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama's campaign does not accept contributions from lobbying firms. Hillary has raised millions from such firms, yet Obama is still outdistancing Clinton in total contributions. What does this mean? It means that the American people are lining up en masse behind Barack Obama. The tide is flowing in his direction, and now is the time to "put up or shut up".
