Preamble:

Videographer and media artist Gunargie O'Sullivan documented the Downtown Eastside Smudge where the red race, black race, white race and yellow race walked from the four directions through the DTES and met at Main and Hastings.

Body:

Singing Thunderbird Child/Twice Standing Woman gave a prayer for the people of the DTES. Ms. O'Sullivan recorded much the walk with sound recording by Rachel Atkinson as Chief Ian Campbell honoured the DTES women, the people of the DTES and other people of the area.

Her recording presents a powerful period of time where prayers and the strength of our people prevail over the normal drudgery and misery of the poorest postal code in Canada. This video captures the sacred smudging and prayers of Canada’s First People, and will move all who watch this video.

The DTES Smudge was put on by Women against violence against women. Uploaded by When Spirit Whisper Co-producer/technican Donald Morin for When Spirit Whispers Producer Gunargiei O'Sullivan. When Spirit Whispers is broadcast every Wednesday night at 2300 hours to midnight on CFRO at 102.7 FM in Vancouver and online at http://www.coopradio.org/listen [1]
