Preamble:

Life is filled with so many decisions - choosing the right school, the right friends, the right clothes...should I go to college or the military, get married, have kids, or purchase a home? Then there are the questions about retirement, vacations and my own personal struggle - which shoes to wear in the morning! (If I had my choice I would go bare foot, and those that know me will vouch with that). One decision that crosses many people’s minds, whether they go through with it or not, is the matter of body augmentation!

Body:

There are so many types of augmentation out there. The obvious ones are breast, facial and tummy. However, it goes well beyond that. Nowadays we are like cars; we go in for an oil change and come out with a new paint job, a new engine, fresh spark plugs and a complete replacement of the "tranny." Explain it however you will, but I don’t think there is any part of the body you can't have “adjusted.” Did you know you can even get calf implants?!

So what is with all the body augmentation? We ask, is it good or bad, should I do it or not, how much should I pay, how do I research to find the best surgeons, and will it last? Of course most everyone goes to their loved ones and asks for their opinion - not that it really matters; you’re just hoping they will give you that nudge you need (or want) to make any hard decision!

There are a lot of people out there asking themselves and others if they should get augmentation. I get asked this question almost daily in fan mail and e-mails, I assume because of my own personal appearance. I have no issues whatsoever with my body…obviously! I am lucky to have been blessed by my mother for who I am.

Many people after viewing me in Playboy ask, "Michelle, are your breasts real?"

My response is, “YES, of course they're real…real expensive!” I had contemplated breast augmentation for several years. I was young, “perky,” and everything was still looking up, so to speak. When I had kids, the things in my life definitely looked up, but the breasts weren’t.

I talked it over with family (looking for that nudge) and decided I was going to go ahead and get breast implants. Then came more decisions: which doctor, what kind (saline or silicone), how many CCs and how to address the medical risks.

My personal opinion is never do anything YOU don’t want to do and never do anything to your body for the purpose of someone else’s happiness. It is important in life to be happy with who you are. With that confidence you can overcome many hurdles.

So many people in today’s world are worried about what others think, myself included. Being in the constant spotlight of the celebrity world, people are always judging you - what you wear, who you talk to, what you drink and who you hang out with…WHO CARES!

If you are happy with who you are and how you look, that is all that matters. People are beautiful for who they are, not what they are. If you want a breast augmentation to feel better about who you are, then do it! If you want your lips bigger, your thighs smaller or your calves bulkier, then do it! BUT, make sure this is something you are doing for you and you only.

It is okay to be selfish when it comes to who you are. Don’t become someone you're not because of what you “think” people around you like. A real loved one loves you for you, whether you augment or not!

A lot people ask if I would do it again. HELL YES! I did the research, put time into it and really thought about it. I did the surgery with Dr. Barnard, the world’s best plastic surgeon (my opinion), and it was the best thing I did for myself. Wow, do I sound self-centered ;)

Not all cases are the same, no matter how much money you have. Tara Reid has openly discussed her situation with breast augmentation, and I support her in her fight because, like I said, there are risks and decisions to make.

The point, however, is that no one can make the decision for you; we can add encouragement, we cause discouragement and we can just "shut up and color" (as they say in the military), but you and only you will make the decision.

Personally, I think if you can get out of bed in the morning, look in the mirror with your hair sticking up, your breath less than pleasant and your face filled with goop and say, “I am who I am because I am myself,” and say it with a smile and truly meaning it, then you have just turned your beat up old Mustang into a cherished 1967 Ford Shelby!

I would never turn anyone away from augmenting their body. I would never encourage it either; I would just tell people what I know from my own personal experience and remind them that no matter how much they change their physical features, at the end of the day when the clothes are off, they are who they are because they are themselves! And that is literally, The Naked Truth.
