Preamble:

If you think lawyers are money grabbing, blood sucking vultures, then this story is for you. The justice system is nit-picking the Robert Pickton case because someone like Gil McKinnon has found a way that he can fill his pockets and take some of the fame and fortune that the other lawyers got. Need I say more?

Body:

For someone to find fault in the ruling in this case, they must be desperate.

This is one reason why I quit being a legal secretary. I loved the challenges and the fight you get as a lawyer, but some of the things I heard or read were phenomenal.

My husband and I were reading the newspaper this morning and he commented about the article by Keith Fraser in the Vancouver Province. His words were, “those blood sucking ______ lawyers,” and since I’m trying to further my education, that comment made me decide not to continue to pursue the legal field.

He was right, I don’t want to be a lawyer, and I’d probably get bored.

What kind of person would really want to open up another can of maggots and disrespect the families who have been tortured for the past decade trying desperately to find their loved one? Someone like Gil McKinnon wants to slap on a few more years of waiting?!

What’s it to him? It’s not any of his loved ones who have been killed by these monsters, so why should he care? He’s just a blood sucking lawyer that wants a part of this Pickton case.

I’m really fed up with the justice system, as you might know if you’ve read some of my prior stories. This so-called justice system of ours really needs to change, and I thought maybe it had since people learned that these weren’t objects that were killed - they were people.

Journalists recently wrote about the serial killer victims from the recent murders in Abbotsford and Aldergrove, British Columbia and the "serial killer” in Alberta. In their articles, they actually touched on the fact that the women were people.

That’s the point I've been trying to get across all along. The women who have been murdered were people, even though they fell on to the wrong path, as many of us do. We might not sell our bodies, but we might be addicted to gambling for example. Maybe you’re addicted to sex; does that make you a bad person? So, whatever the case, they are people.

As a First Nations woman, I can truly say that I am proud to be First Nations and I’m happy that we’re finally getting noticed and treated with a little more respect. Just because I took the wrong path that almost cost me my life, I’m still a person who has a mind and a heart. I’m one of the fortunate that made it out of the hell hole of Hastings Street. I still have a heavy heart that my friends of the missing women didn’t have the same chance as I did to turn their lives around

If only Pickton would have thought of that before he murdered or assisted in murdering these women. If only Dinah Taylor, Lynn Ellingsen, or Gina Houston wouldn’t have been so sick in the head to have wanted to help these women instead of assisting in the murders, as I believe they did. I can’t say much for Pat Casanova, either.

This trial won’t be over for me until justice is served for the next 20 women - two of them are friends of mine. Sarah deVries and Jackie Murdock were two most wonderful women who might have succeeded in recovery and the reality of life. Both of these women had heads on their shoulders until the damn drugs took control.

Gil McKinnon should be ashamed of himself. He should let it be and let go. A criminal shouldn’t have any rights. As we say in the joint (jail), if you do the crime you do the time. So let Pickton do his time and let him think about the women he’s destroyed who might have had a chance at life.

I still wish the task force will find enough evidence to arrest the others who I believe were involved. Our people always say that the Creator will teach them in time and they will get what’s coming to them. I sure hope so, because it’s not fair.

As life goes on, I’ve been trying to get into BCIT for the Broadcasting, Media and Journalism program they offer there. I enjoyed watching Carole McNeil and Heather McLaughlin create their story about my life. I really enjoyed doing an interview with the CBC and an interview with CTV - I find that it’s something that I want to continue doing. Maybe I will be able to use the power of the media to open up topics that need to be sincerely looked at.

All the best to you and Happy New Year.
