Campinas
Preamble:

Campinas is a great city near the Capital of the state of São Paulo which is also called São Paulo. It has more then a million inhabitants and faces all the problems of all big cities. The city officials are taking the advantage of the Christmas buying spirit and the thousands of people packed walking down town from shop to shop to raise the awareness of young people about ADIS. As I was passing by I decided it could be good to report on it.

Body:

Following the Federal government motto of "Fique Sabendo", which is a trade mark, literally in English: "Get to Know It" medical personal, social assistants, psychologists and community members from Campinas city were making a lot of noise with dance of music to attract the attention, distribute condones and informative pamphlets to the population.

In the photo above infectologist doctor Claudia, nurses Maria Alice and Valdete also Rose a Psychologist… all wearing the campaign t-shirt. According to them the young people like to see the dance and it is a good way to approach them. The city officials are afraid the number of infections among youngsters may rise drastically in the coming years. The fact is that the numbers keep growing year after year and information is the best weapon to fight this war against the virus.

The information spread is very realistic:
HIV is transmitted:
Via vaginal, anal or oral sex if you do not use condones
If you share needles and syringes
Blood transfusion
During pregnancy, during the delivery and nursing

HIV cannot be transmitted by:
Kissing
Touch, embrace and hand shake
Shared towels, glasses, dishes or silver ware
Sweat or tears

A special leaflet talks about making love is very direct, it goes like if you love you use condones. We all hope the work which I witnessed in Campinas and is also taking place all around the country will render its fruit - more love less AIDS.
