In a February, 2004 New Jersey newspaper interview, entitled "I'm tired of being forced into the shadows by society," Ashford discusses his attraction to children and why he thinks that pedophiles should not be discriminated against by society. In January 2006, Ashford shut down some parts of the puellula.com domain due to lack of funding. As of January 2007, puellula remains online, following Ashford's public requests for funding, which have been followed by a further request for funds, this time to pay an air fee from his resident Panama to the Netherlands.
In July 2005, Ashford came under heavy criticism by investigative reporters for running a missing children's website himself, which included photos of Elizabeth Smart among others.Television stations WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan and KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona interviewed the parents of children featured on Ashford's site, Taken from our Midst. The parents expressed outrage that their children were featured on a website run by a pedophile. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also expressed outrage that Ashford would operate such a site.

By Trisha Baptie, May 13, 2007 at 21:01I have to say as i read your story i was aghast that someone could run a site like the one you mentioned. So i did what every good person should do, i googled his name.
Low and behold to my horror there was his site. I was even able to watch a horrifying interview with him on youtube.
He is a seriously sick and twisted man.
Thanks for bring a site like this to the attention of others. What can we do about this kind of twisted thinking and views on children?
I am not sure.
i will however be hugging my children closer and making sure we have very open dialogue about how they must watch out for these kinds of people.

By luyen, May 22, 2007 at 09:26I think it's fine for these people who have serious mental problems, because in my opinion pedophilia is really a problem, and a very harmful one.
It's fine for them to express themselves, within very controlled circumstances, like if they're seeking help, or within the confidentiality of a therapist/patient relationship.
But to have it publicized onto the internet, get attention - i like many people are horrified by this prospect. Pedophiles do not need people's understanding, that will not help them - or rather it will help them in the wrong way.
They need serious therapeutic help, they need serious mental and legal restraints, for their own good and for that of society.
It only takes 1 thief or 1 pedophile to make a whole community live in fear, and I think we really need to appeal our MPs and government to ban such sites, which in my opinion are of the same nature as hate websites, it propagates an excuse for very harmful delusions.
