The Fun Revolution gave this idea a trial run a few months back when we left a Pound coin on top of a pelican crossing box. Amazingly it was still there one week later but eventually someone "found" it.
The gift and/or the amount to be left are at the participants discretion. You can leave more money or you can leave less. The idea is to leave something that will be a "lovely" surprise to the finder, in places they wouldn't expect to find it, therefore making it obvious to the finder that it was left there on purpose. For example, leave a coin in a library book on a shelf at the library, or under the phone reciever at a public phone booth. it is also possible to leave a nice note or card with it to make it even more obvious. You can even leave a small gift instead of money, as long as its something you yourself would be delighted to find.
