Everyone has a defining moment somewhere in life. Whether it be achieving a 3.0 grade point average, or being the most valuable player on a basketball team. It seems that no matter how great or small this event may seem to the rest of the world, it means everything to the person experiencing it. Sometimes the moment is happy such as the first examples.

Here is my story and involvement in the church of scientology.

What is Scientology you may ask?

The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."

About What the Church Does

Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:

Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized - and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.

In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.

He's Christian, but he says he believes in reincarnation.

    Hebrews 9:27 (King James Version)
    King James Version (KJV)

[A Public Domain Bible] [KJV at Zondervan] [Zondervan]

27And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

sorry, but the two are not compatible.

Plus as to your last comment, I've talked with many of you, and I've even read your text. And what I've seen is as exactly as I've wrote above, my words are not mean, but true, if you find they are hurtful, consider the tone, it's not angry, nor exasperated, merely concerned for your's and others welfare.

Sounds kind of like you, huh? Or what you might think so.

I've spent much more time studying scientology, around three years at this point.

I've seen your newsletters, I've read your secret texts, OT3 all the way to OT8.

And yes, much of scientology revolves around telling the world that scientology can cure almost all it's ills, and that everything is psychosomatic, their is a phrase within scientology, "pulling it in", which suggests that you attract your problems and woes. I've even heard of this being told to molested children. scientologist OT7's even purport to be able to create, "space", at will.

They proclaim to be above MEST, that is Matter, Energy, Space and Time. And they claim that their is no such thing as a chemical imbalance, mostly because they proclaim that it is not actually the brain that thinks, it is, in their words, the thetan. It's mostly their word for soul.

I assert that it is not a religion, but a cult. It has all the hallmarks of a cult, an insular, xenophobic societal structure built around a charismatic leader, L. Ron Hubbard, members who are often described as fanatical, actual first-hand accounts of illegal actions ordered by high ranking members of the group, and by that I'm talking about Operation Snow White, it sounds ridiculous, but Google Mary Sue Hubbard and you'll see she went to jail for it.

Also the redefinition and invention of new words for specific use inside the group, it seeks to further insulate them from the world around them, by using words that only another scientologist would know they lessen their ability to connect and contact other people outside the religion, because after using the scientology dictionary for so long they define themselves by using the terms held their, they also use it to defeat the critical thinking of the brain.

How? It's simple, every time they read a scientology text and their logic tells it's bull, they tell their instructor they don't understand, so they're told they've MU's or misunderstood words, so they have to grab a scientology dictionary and read the entire text again, redefining the words the know, by the definitions they do not. Thus the logic center of their brain is defeated, because the possibility of the text being wrong is sidestepped, replaced instead with, "I must just misunderstand the words".

Also this helps them to start thinking in the language of scientology, which they could only converse with a scientologist, therefore preventing them from conversing with those who might disapprove of scientology.

Also they spy on their own members, any scientologist who disagrees with this, I ask, have you ever written a KR report, for those uninitiated, KR stands for Knowledge Report, scientologists write reports on those around them, especially detailing the perceived misdeeds of their comrades, also, in auditing, they hook you up to a primitive lie detector and ask you series of questions describing various incidents in your life and possible past lives that you have, every time they get a reading, they ask you to basically describe it in detail.

Therefore, all the bad past deeds in your life are essentially kept in a folder, one that they keep, forever. Also they periodically perform Sec Checks, if you fail these or are downstat enough, again all these scientology words, you get sent to the RPF, the Rehabilitation Project Force, essentially grueling laborious hours for days, weeks, or months.

Disconnection is also another practice they've developed, whereby if they determine one of their members is around Suppressive Persons, or persons who are suppressive of scientology, they will order that person to cut off all contact with that person. Even if they are friend, or family member, even if they are a child of that person.

And I shall end this, on, gosh so many choices, I guess I'll talk about the Sea Org, an essentially para-military organization. They dress up in navy uniforms and are determined to be the most dedicated within scientology, I describe them as para-military because of the uniforms, and the posters they hand out. Every member upon entering the Sea Org has to sign a billion year contract. You can see some of their posters at Xenu.net, the Sea Org say they're dedicated to clearing the planet, and to save it by doing so. Clearing the planet means they plan to put every person on the planet in Scientology, and into the state of Clear, where they say that the people have perfect recall of every memory they've ever had.

It's a lie, and scientology has never submitted any of it's claims, which they describe as scientific and factually based, to any form of scientific institution.

they've been asked and have always refused.

So you have people who've learned a whole language that can't be used anywhere else but scientology, disconnection from family members who disagree with scientology's practices or beliefs, periodic purges resulting from sec checks that demote people to a base for of existence, which regulates them to grueling and meaningless work, all the things people have done wrong are recorded, all the members essentially spy on each other, people telling each other that everything that's bad that happens to them is their fault, and a form of arrogance bred from inventing names like wog, and saying that they live in the MEST universe. And that scientologists can or do actually live above it.

    What a load of crap.

It's a cult, and I haven't even got to the vast sums of money people pay for this crap, or even OT3.

if you wish to verify my words, go to xenu.net, or Alt.Religion.Scientology, which you can access through a newsreader or google groups.

And you, "Ianjo99", learned this all in two hours... amazing! Sorry, but I don't believe a word of what you say. Thanks, Luka, for taking this daring step to give us your personal story, despite of some anonymous liars.

I, too, have had a personal experience with Scientology; it was the scariest two hours of my life. From what I could gather, the "church" revolves around dismissing psychology and psychiatry as unfounded, then begins on an endless ride of contradicting facts surrounding by an ambiguous definition of "religion".

    L. Ron Hubbard was NOT half of what he claimed to be. He did not have universal acclaim and in fact has been labeled a fraud by most people who knew him.

Now I don't hate people who are Scientologists; I sympathize and genuinely feel for them. What I do hate are those people who reap financial benefits from others' fear and uncertainty about the world. Just because they are adept at noticing and exploiting weaknesses in people (which all of us have) does not mean that they have the "truth" or any version thereof.
