Lynn Ellingsen took the stand today. As she entered the court, I could almost feel her unease at being at this place. Having a rough idea of what she would be testifying about today, I imagined I would feel the same.

As she sat, her well-dressed, slight-framed body seemed to silently say Lynn would rather be any where but here. The beginning of her testimony covered her background. As we broke for the first recess, we knew we would soon hear the real reason she was on the stand...She would be the first witness to say she saw Pickton with a dead body.

One night sitting in her room high, she heard a noise outside her window that drew her outside. She saw the light on in the barn beside the trailer and thought it odd, so she went to the barn to have a look.

According to her testimony, she was overcome by the smell before she even got to the door. She then walked in on an unfathomably grotesque and horrific scene of a woman hanging on a hook. Pickton grabbed her and brought her behind the door and made her look at the scene; she remembers seeing the woman's red-painted toes in front of her face, right in her line of vision. Pickton allegedly said if Ellingsen said anything to anybody, she would be right beside her.

The "her" referred to still has not been identified, but we know she was a sex trade worker that Pickton and Ellingsen had picked up earlier in the night in the downtown area. At the start of the evening, Ellingsen and Pickton had gone to the Del hotel in Surrey, where Pickton had a discussion with another man while Ellingsen sat and had some drinks as to what they discussed Ellingsen is unsure. After they left the Del she believes they crossed the bridge into New Westminster and they were pulled over by police to do a field sobriety test.

Pickton passed the test and they were on their way downtown.
