Although I have never worked as a barista nor have I ever been employed by Starbuck's coffee, I could probably be referred to as a Starbucks Cinderella. That's because, like Cinderalla, I am still waiting after more than 15 years for my chance to work at Starbucks Coffee with the hopes of building a long term career with all the benefits that the coffee chain claims to offer. However, there is no magic pumpkin and a fairy godmother in this tale.

Are perks such as earning 'bean stock,' or shares in the company, medical and dental benefits and opportunities to grow with the company legit? Could I actually travel to different countries around the world by working shifts at various outlets of Starbuck's Coffee, or is that just more hype which never materializes like the job offers that I've waited so long to receive? What's unique about me is that I've have submitted my resume and application form about 12 times a year for the last 15 years to every almost every Starbucks Coffee outlet in my home city of Vancouver, Canada. That's about 180 applications and I may have added a few more since then, so perhaps 200 copies of my resume have been submitted.

Last year I attended no less than seven Starbuck's hiring fairs, where several Starbuck's managers from an entire region do interviews of up to 400 applicants in one day. I also attend over 10 first and second interviews in addition the hiring fairs. No luck.

Since Starbucks first became visible in the city of Vancouver I've taken the liberty of doing my research about the company and I've learned about the numerous opportunties which managers who interviewed me claim are available to baristas who are ambitious.

Managers, district managers, regionals, and the chance to open brand new coffee outlets in other countries as the chain grows are available to the barrista who wants to work hard, but that's something that I've always dreamed about but have never yet experienced.
