What's Wrong ?

What is the final and absolute and trust-worthy authority to which (humanity) can turn to know whether or not it's wrong for a female school teacher to be intimately involved with her 14 year old student ? '

Is it wrong to impose your morality on others ?

Most readers will give a resounding "yes" to this question and will do so without hesitation.

When the question of morality comes up, not far away in the conversation are expressions like "morality police" with suspicions barely masked as to one's motivation for introducing morality ( or any pretense thereof ) into the conversation.

In today's culture, at least here in North America, one would not dare to go into the public forum and declare that it's wrong for people to be sexually active before marriage. They would have good reason to fear being chastised for imposing their morality on others.

Our various forms of media evidence no shortage of examples of the accusations and ridicule directed at any who would dare take a stand which drips at all of morality.

Is morality wrong ? Or is it only wrong to impose your morality on another person ?

The latter, you say ?

This story raises many interesting questions, many of them which could possibly, infinitely regress, like if there's a higher power, then what or who is it, what is its nature and so forth, and if such a higher power exists, is that cause-less? If it is not, then where did that higher power come from?

From many schools of thought, some Indian, some Buddhist, the foundation of this thing morality, is not a thing in itself, but rather a connection of many things. Namely, sentient beings, living beings, in the form of mutual inter-dependence, on the gross and also subtle levels.

In that sense, because all compositional things, like situations, people, countries, cultures are always changing in relation to other things, it is posited that there is no absolute truth in regards to what is right or wrong.

If an absolute, permanent truth existed, we would all know it, regardless of who we are, there'd be no obstructions to this knowledge or idea. It would be immutable, never changeable, always present, and a part of us. If this could happen, then we everything would have to immutable as well. Since how can something that is permanent, be affected by something that is not?

This is not the case, because everything is impermanent, we cannot find even one idea or one "thing" that does not have its causes in something else.

So once again, this is a very good story with lots of questions, and maybe we don't need to look too hard for a solid answer. The holy grail of answers, so much as to just be aware of the present moment, and how it affects others.

In some discussions i had once, this person would ask a question, and everyone gave answers, and he said they're all good answers...we all expected a definitive one from him, but he never gave one. He just said...sometimes it's better not to have a conclusion.

Luyen, you stated "If an absolute, permanent truth existed, we would all know it, regardless of who we are, there'd be no obstructions to this knowledge or idea."

Explain then, if possible, why there are yet undiscovered natives in Africa / Brasil who have no concept of a round earth or of a solar system with the sun at it's "center", or that there are tides which result from the exchange of gravitational forces between the earth & the moon. These are absolute truths that are probably unknown to many people around the world, including some countries where attempts have been made to "civilize" the peoples there.
