That was the week that Manchester City almost fell apart because of Dr Frank's antics, and then they lost to a team nobody can even pronounce. How often does 'that familiar sinking feeling' have to happen before it just becomes normality? Business as usual then...

MONDAY

One thing you can never accuse Manchester City Football Club of being is dull. Even when they get a millionaire owner, they still manage to turn it into a tragi-comic soap opera where he has lots and lots of money, but can't actually get to any of it because he's pretty much a wanted criminal in his own country. Which is where all the money is. Knowing City, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if he turned out to not have any money at all. But Dr Frank's latest escapades really do make the rest of his antics in the last year look boring by comparison.

He and his wife, Nurse Pojaman are on bail over corruption charges and were allowed to leave Thailand in order to go to the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics on the understanding that they would return to face justice. Surprisingly, they have decided that they don't really want to do that, and have come back to England instead because "democracy is more important" here. Dr Frank has always been a big fan of democracy, you see. And of staying out of prison.

Quite what all of this will mean for City remains to be seen, as they are apparently rather broke without his Thai riches, and have paid for everything since his arrival with bank loans.
