Manchester United's penalty shoot-out victory over Portsmouth in the Community Shield has heralded the start of the 2008/09 English Premier League season. Last time around, it was the Red Devils who snapped up the big two prizes, the title and the Champions League, with Pompey sealing the FA Cup and Tottenham winning the Carling Cup. But what about this term?
How are the Big Four going to get on? United have enjoyed a great pre-season, but can they live up to the success of last year? Can Luiz Felipe Scolari guide Chelsea to the kind of success they enjoyed under Jose Mourinho? Will Arsenal feel the absences of Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini? Will Robbie Keane help fire Liverpool to their first league title in eighteen years?
Further down the table, can anyone break the grip of the Big Four? Is this Tottenham's year after their fantastic pre-season campaign? Will the new managers at Manchester City and Blackburn help them challenge the big guns? Or maybe Everton and Newcastle will finally fulfill some of their potential?
And finally, what of the relegation issue? Can underdogs Hull and Stoke avoid being this season's Derby and stay up? Or are they doomed to dropping straight back down into the Championship? All these questions will be answered between now and next May, but for now I want your predictions. What is your team going to achieve this season? Let me know what you think!
