So I Wish I Could Dance

me dancing

I think I fit the dancer look quite well.

What part of watching sexy, incredibly fit girls in skin-tight outfits pelvic thrust, booty shake(and bend in ways I didn’t think possible) doesn’t appeal to a guy? '

I might as well admit this up front, I’m secretly in love with ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. This is coming from someone who’es dance experience consists of drunk holding on to a girl’s waist as she gyrates her rear-end into me, and participating in grade 9 gym class square dance. Alaman left!

So it comes as a bit of a surprise that I am captivated by this show. My fascination with SYTYCD started a few years ago when I’d catch glimpses of it while my mom and sister fawned over the men and women flipping their way across our television.

Fast forward three years and I’m a legitimate fan. Unlike American Idol, which becomes a chore to watch after the audition phase, ‘Dance’ is a treat throughout the whole season. While it’s impossible not to be entertained by a flabby, mid-forties man in spandex pants awkwardly somersaulting to a Kanye West song, the show really does get better once the excess fat is trimmed.

Now I’m sure some macho guys are thinking to themselves, “Wow, no real man should be watching this show.” What part of watching sexy, incredibly fit girls in skin-tight outfits pelvic thrust, booty shake, (and bend in ways I didn’t think possible) doesn’t appeal to a guy?

Side note: If I were a guy on this show, I would absolutely try to sleep with every single one of my partners. It’d be like shooting fish in a barrel. You’re constantly touching and grinding, it’s your job as a pair to ooze sexiness, everyone’s slick and sweaty and in semi forms of nakedness. I mean come on, could it get any easier? If you’re a heterosexual man competing on SYTYCD and you haven’t slept with a female contestant, you’re an embarrassment to men everywhere.

Now besides the ‘hot girl’ factor, the real reason I like this show is because it makes me want to dance. Usually it takes a combination of four shots of tequila and Justin Timberlake to make me cut a rug. ‘Dance’ is cheaper and a lot easier on my liver.

Nice article. I agree. It's fashionable in some circles to denigrate programs like 'Idol' and 'Dance', but what's the harm? No one gets tortured (well, us, but only until the really bad performers get weeded out.)

Really. Everyone wins. We're not watching mindless violence, and in the case of Dance especially, the top 20 or so are generally astonishingly good. A beautiful art form gets promoted, and regardless of who ultimately wins, many careers get made. It's a lot better than watching 'Law & Odor' (die, McCoy, you officious bastard!) and I've actually learned a bit about dance. I think the phenomenal popularity of the program speaks to its merits. So there.

Ha ha, that's a pretty funny article.

I love the show. I used to make fun of my mom, who liked to dance in our living room doing "dying tree" poses and "salmon spawning" moves and such. Now, I've done a 180 because the contemporary routines on the show always make me cry!

My roommate came into the livingroom when I was watching it recently and started openly mocking the dancers... I had to pretend their was something in my eye...

Oh my God! I couldn't agree more..What other show can you watch after a hard day's work that actually mesmerizes and inspires you to look and feel better; all from a horizontal view with clicker in hand and a promise to yourself to hit the pilates mat tomorrow. Not only do you get to stare with fascination at beautful faces and bodies, but you actually get to tie that together with amazing talent. Love, love , love this show!
