Das Gute Amerikans

How strange that a culture which purports to exalt a man-deity who died under torture to 'save' mankind would casually embrace torture as a matter of policy. '

These days, one needs nerves of steel to be a criminal in the Bush Administration.

The boys and girls of the Bush Putsch need a really big distraction. There has been more and more talk of citizen’s arrests, arrest by foreign governments (Bonjour, and don’t forget to pack your fastest Adidas, Condi), trials at The Hague. Heck, even good ol’ Paraguay is becoming a little unsafe for war criminals. And Vincent Bugliosi, the man who prosecuted Charles Manson has a new book out in which he argues that George W. Bush should be tried for capital murder, and if found guilty, executed. I know! Just like Karla Faye Tucker, a fellow Christian to whom Texas Governor Bush denied the clemency requested by the heads of many governments and the Pope. Then Bush mocked her in death (‘Please don’t kill me!’). Things are starting to get a little hot in the Capitol when a famous prosecutor wants to do a Saddam on the Am President, presumably after a fair trial. With a jury. And lawyers. And evidence, and all that stuff that the President deems unnecessary. At least for others..

Can a President pardon himself? Well first he’d have to admit that he’d done something wrong, which would be a first for ol’ 43. But presuming he could, or would, grant himself (and presumably his long line of cronies in crime) a pardon, it would only cover such things as massive warrantless spying, crapping all over the Constitution, stealing elections, and the like. Not pithy matters to be sure, but not something to get executed over. Well, maybe

War crimes and crimes against humanity are not pardonable offences. You could say they are ‘unpardonable.’ Nor are they subject to any statute of limitations. Bush/Cheney et al have committed unpardonable and unforgivable crimes. Quite a few of them.
