Tonight I watched the the movie Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith, which also features Will Smith's son who also stars in the movie. Pursuit of Happyness is based on the real life experiences of Chris Gardner, the founder of Garder Rich and Co, a multimillion dollar brokerage firm which has undoubtedly made Chris Gardner and many other people very very happy since it's creation.

Will Smith is very moving in his portrayal as Chris Gardner, an African American father a five-year-old boy who faces very difficult circumstances that put them out on the street alone after Gardner's girl friend, played by Thandie Newton picks up and leaves. However, they are comforted by the hope in the way of an opportunity to intern in a well-known and respected stockbroker firm.
Even Gardner himself realizes that he's no dummy, but quite intelligent and detemined to get ahead no matter what.

Along the way, Gardner gets arrested, evicted, hit by a car and ripped off, but he keeps on going, knowing that the situation he faces with his son won't be the end but the beginning of something better.

The movie is one that I urge people to go see, not because Will Smith is undoubtedly a very good actor, but that the message is clearly reinforeced many times throughout the movie: 'never give up, ever.'
Even as Smith's character tells his son; "Never let anyone tell you that you can't do something, even if it's me."Gardner never does, and even manages to hold onto his pride and humor when he walks into the interview for an internship after spending a night in jail wearing a paint splattered jacket that wont zip up and a paint in his hair.

Perhaps a smile and confidence in himself is the only successful attire that Gardner really needed after all but he is determined to make this chance work out, as Smith so realistically portrays in the film, even shedding real tears when he spend the night in a public restroom holding the little person whom he really has to impress the most.

Go see this film.
