Aim high and you may just hit your target. Out to snare the number one terrorist in the world is ace filmmaker Morgan Spurlock. Documentaries are our man’s forte and he lets loose with a campy takedown in Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? a rather noble effort from Alliance Films

Truth be told, Spurlock is a pretty savvy filmmaker. Blending pop culture and send-up our New Yorker beefs up and heads out to locate the whereabouts of the world’s most wanted man. Done in a documentary style with a tough of mockumentary the film gets off to a rollicking start as this “average” American does his best to “train” to be the best sleuth/spy since Inspector Clouseau. All kidding aside, this well-intentioned Yank takes all the necessary precautions when traveling to the Middle East.

Computer and video game enthusiasts will be able to relate to the way Spurlock engages audiences as his playbook is neatly divided into neighbouring states. Deep inside the murky world of politics we go with the Arab World put under the gun in this quest. Man, woman and teen on the street interviews are both candid and engaging with Spurlock going that extra mile to obtain information. Jaunts to such bastions of democracy as Saudi Arabia reveal volumes about the iron fist of such dictatorial regimes.

Much insight into the troubles of the region are well handled with an even balance approach given off. Whether it’s questioning Israeli policies or exposing Muslim paranoia Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? offers us nothing new here. Instead it shows the humanity in the region, along with the ingrained hatreds and offers us a bit of hope for salvation.
