Whitney Thompson isn't just a pretty face; she's curvy, she's outgoing and she's America's Next Top Model. On top of rocking the runway, this Florida native has a mission to overthrow the heroin-sheik look that reigns over today's fashion industry - and grace the cover of Vogue.

My 13-year-old cousin and I were at the beach and she turns to me and says, “Oh my God, I’m so fat!” I immediately said, “No, you’re not and you look great – and why is my 13-year-old cousin calling herself fat?”

I started researching and saw the statistics that said almost half of nine-year-old girls have been on a diet, and I began thinking why isn’t anyone doing anything about this? I don’t want my cousin growing up without a role model and it worries me that perhaps her generation may be a lost one because all of her role models are either in rehab or recovering from eating disorders. One of my favorite quotes is, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” so I decided to audition for America’s Next Top Model.

Big And Beautiful - And Not Changing For Anyone!

If you look at a regular model, they’re a size 2 or a size 4 maximum. I am not! I am a size 10 and I don’t ever plan on being a size 4. I’ve heard “if you only lost 50 pounds you’d be so beautiful” and I’ve said always no – I’m not going to do that. I’m going to stay my size and you can call me when you change your mind. In the meantime, I’m going to go eat something!

Being a plus-size model does not mean that you’re fat. It means you have breasts; it means you’re a size C-cup; it means you’re a size 10 in pants. It doesn’t mean that you’re double-Ds and weigh 300 pounds and I think a lot of people don’t understand that.

I totally agree. Congratulations! It's about time a curvy woman won the title of America's Next Top Model.

I always feel bad for some of these girls that work with Janice or are told they are fat by the designers. It really hurts to hear that (and I'm just the viewer). Not everyone in the world is 6 feet tall and a size 0. I call those people superfreaks (aka supermodels)...because they are not of the norm, yet women are expected to look like that. Believe me, it is awkward to be a normal woman amongst a sea of supermodels. In NYC, the models run rampant on the streets. They share the same elevator with you, go to the same parties, attend the same functions. When you're single and looking...forget about it when they're in the room. Just their presence alone makes a beautiful non-model feel like the ugliest person in the room. They really can kick your self-esteem to the curb very quickly. I know...that's why I try to stand on the other side of the room when supermodels are in the same room as me.

Most women are between sizes 8 and 12. We should be teaching the latest generation and future generations that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Skin and bones and starving yourself is not pretty. I don't find anything sexy about skin and bones, but yet that is what young girls and women are striving for...because someone in the fashion industry dubbed size 0 and 2 as the size of "beautiful people."

I am still flabbergasted by the line in the "Devil Wears Prada" where they said a size 6 was FAT! My mouth just dropped to the floor.

Back in the real supermodel days of Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer, those ladies were size 6s and 8s. They were not fat. They were perfectly beautiful in every sense of the word. I think the fashion industry should start shifting their sizing back to the days of Cindy, Claudia and Tyra.
