I envision a product that would fit these general parameters: "automated" deployment, failsafe, elegant and simple in design, more reliable than TASERs (has no electrical parts), can be used in a wide variety of temperatures, lower cost per unit than TASERs, no special storage or safe handling techniques involved, much better than PR received from human force, billy clubs, TASERs and firearms.....
I have a device on paper that can be assembled inexpensively, can cover a 10 x 10 foot square area, is compact and will weigh less than a side arm, perhaps slightly more than a TASER, can be worn on a service belt, can be easily and quickly deployed without intricate training, first aid will seldom be required-if ever, the design can be increased in size for larger crowd control applications.
I'd like to work with the RCMP to develop it to meet all their requirements and have this become a Canadian project for the good of humanity and lead the field like the Arrow did meeting our military's requirements at the time. I approached the RCMP when I thought of this idea spurred on by a comment from a lady in the dog park. She mentioned the idea of a large animal capture net.
Do you think my ideas will get a chance to help make a difference?
Not bloody likely...
"Riding the Lightning" is exactly why cops love to TASER. That is the primary reason why the HID-Human Immobilization Device will not be their first choice.

Re: The TASER Inquiry Spurs on my Lateral Thought Processes
By Bud Oracle (not verified), May 19, 2008 at 07:49Basically, for my own personal sanity I have to disconnect from this preventable tragedy and the hopelessness surrounding my desire for safer policing.
Why should I spend time and effort making drawings of something not a single person gives a cr*p about? Everybody that counts has been bought by TASER and Canadians will continue to die, because the cops don't care, are not accountable. I'm tired of bashing my head against concrete for bovine Canadians who continuously support this corrupt system by doing nothing. Let the next mothers wail, its the problem of our lawmakers, not me. After all, I'm a dangerous criminal, a Cannabis user. Let the Judgmental Christians who are near perfect, have their way and get behind your killer cops, Stephen Harper"s hard-line BS.
Have at her if YOU want things to change, SLACKERS, I'm tired of holding up your end for you.
How many emails have you sent to S Day? How long does it take? My last one was about a week ago. You say it doesn't make any difference. Sure, if only 20 Canadians, email on any subject, nothing will ever happen. The masses have been pacified with a simple marketing strategy telling them their input will be ineffective so why bother. It really is that simple to control 35 million people and that is why I consider us to be a herd of Bovine methane producers. And the liars claim that Marijuana users are lethargic, stupid?
I sure hope they TASER your loved one next, maybe then things will change, eh?
Re: The TASER Inquiry Spurs on my Lateral Thought Processes
By johnhatch, May 18, 2008 at 14:09I think it was very predictable that the Taser would be widely abused by police. Now we find out that in Vancouver even the skytrain goons are using them against passengers in non-threatening situations. They use them simply because they can. The incident at YVR was sad and despicable. Cops itch to gain Taser experience 'in the field', so they'll use any excuse, or none. The fact that four officers trained in CPR and other life-saving techniques just stood by and let their victim die (a portable defibrilator was seconds away) speaks to the corruption and moronic violence in the RCMP. If police are going to attack citizens with Tasers, citizens have to be prepared to fight back. Hard.
Re: The TASER Inquiry Spurs on my Lateral Thought Processes
By Bud Oracle (not verified), May 19, 2008 at 06:15I know exactly what you mean, John, The TASER is both entrenched throughout the police forces of the world despite many deaths as well as "usage creep" Sort of like using a shock collar for dogs to make them come along through pain. I have a friend who si a dog trainer and uses the positive reinforcement method as I have with my wild wolf. She has come up against people telling her that the best method is electric shock collars. These are the types of recruits hired those who believe that its all right to TASER some 82 year old laying on a gurney in the hospital there WERE MANY ALTERNATIVES AVAILABLE, AS WELL AS THE LIKElY CAUSE OF THE APPARENT AGGRESSION MIGHT BE MEDICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL..
Although I can't find net gun, the capture device not being available is not the problem facing its distribution. TASER has probably greased the skids well with whatever lubricant necessary. We've seen one cop being disciplined for taking TASER money. You can bet there has been some slippery stuff going on because I believe Canada has several thousand more of these deadly torture/controller weapons on order. No longer do they even have to think, just deploy the energy weapons, no matter if they result a death of an innocent citizen, it is not of any concern to a cop. Why should it be when they can get away with murder every time?
When the new chief of the VPD, Jim Chu, stood up and backed up his officers as having had to empty a 9 shot clip into Paul Boyd on Granville street, on the Early Edition CBC in an interview with Stephen Quinn, only 2 days after the shooting, before any investigation was done, I charged him with prejudicing the case in favor of his own officers at the OPCC. Obstruction of justice.
Can you believe that they sent 2 cops and a lawyer to test my sanity? Do you think there is Justice in Canada? I know positively that there is not and the police are criminals who risk anyone's life casually. I mean all of them because I don't see anyone bucking the tar and feathering.
Do I know how the Justice system and how our police forces work, John?
Yes I do. These are criminal organizations above the laws, violent, with no concern for those whom they serve. Yet I believe there is no where else to turn, too! I work on personal ethical boundaries not our law and Justice system.
Here's the revision I came up with when they used the good deed of my turning in double murderer, to dissuade me from pursuing charges against a cop who ran into the night. This happened when their personal dog attacked me and they left me injured calling for help, I revised their motto to,
"To serve themselves. To Protect their ass. "
All of them? Well I don't see any of "good" cops taking out the bad ones .
Why not? Because the entrenchment is aligned with seniority and chain of command.
And that my friend is why you will never see a change here in Canada. The recruits are hired for their ability to conform to the entrenched organized criminal system, run by the corrupt. command. I'll just mention on of the Italian names big in our police forces history, Zaccardelli, Capo de tuti Capo of the RCMP. Was there a reason why a civilian had to take over the RCMP?
I say disband the "Buffalo Patchers." One black man dies in Somolia, Shidane Arone or something like that and the whole regiment is disbanded. How many more civilians need to be tortured, how much conflict developed hostility and alienation of our young because the Police want to be morality cops demanding scitizens submit to their terror.
Soon, as I keep telling the right-wingers who promote hard line policing, the crooks will shoot back because they will be left with a hardened attitude as well. "Ye shall reap what ye soweth."
Then the cops will demand more firepower and the criminals will again adjust and so it goes, and so it goes. We are letting our garbage men make our environmental policies and allowing them free reign like the Mafia control's garbage pick-up in Naples. The cops get to spin their warped attitude into lawmaking, overriding the will of the people in our democracy. They consider it their duty to whittle down our human and civil rights. It's always a "us against them attitude." These goons model themselves after the worst of American "law enforcement Bullies." Racial profiling, always trying to stick there nose into people's freedom of choice as if these goofs know better. Yeah, because bovine Canadians are not capable of seeing through their con, to understand the problem, we will be saddled with these criminals for a long time..
Stupid laws and stupider self centered bullies to enforce them are major parts of the problem. No accountability anywhere in sight. This is LAWLESSNESS! How this will promote a law abiding attitude is totally beyond explanation. It's all cr*p, smoke and legal mirrors. There is no rule of law in Canada.
Re: The TASER Inquiry Spurs on my Lateral Thought Processes
By Bud Oracle (not verified), May 18, 2008 at 07:14To date I have not received any word back from the RCMP. I pitched them with the idea back when the Robert Dziekanski tragedy took place. The "invention" I envisage would be easy to develop through a series of prototypes. I asked for $20,000.00. Since I don't have any credibility in the mechanical engineering, product development field I will try to get my ideas down here soon. It's as viable a concept as i envisioned in the "batten Pocket Repair kit." http://www.orato.com/sports/2008/05/02/pilot-039-s-tale
I'll try for a drawing of it, or at least some diagrams, although they will likely be amateur in nature. All that aside, it is a viable concept as I described it. All that is required is the tweaking of the energies required to launch the net and the mass of the slugs to be launched. Two formulas that I have had prior experience with come to mind which will need to be employed for the tweaking. The first is of course F=MA and the second is "A = v_h,\ a = -g/2,\ b = v_v . This yields the formula for a parabolic trajectory:. p(t) = (v_h t,0,v_v t - g t^ (Equation I: trajectory of parabola). ..."
The energy source will be preloaded springs launching the slugs which will deploy the device, the net a tough light weight carbon fiber (or other) thread 10' x 10' will be contained in a launcher that fits on a cop's utility belt, approximated 6" x 8" x 2" and weigh about 16 ounces or less. Since it requires no electrical power, no gas pressure, no complicated parts (all mechanical) it should be reliable through extremes of temperature, rough handling and positive deployment 100% of the time. And cheap like Borscht, too.
I going to put it and the diagram out here so that others may contribute and develop this gem of an idea, because I have zero chance of being taken seriously in the field, or to raise the money to actually develop it myself, and I would rather see this "Capture Tool" saving lives, saving the pain of loss Roberts mom suffered, than try to hold out for monetary gains.
This way some intelligent executive who has the resources and wishes to get ahead of the competition can take up the challenge with brighter engineering talent than I and make it happen for the very best of reasons, while still laughing all the way to the bank!.
