Against this backdrop Hannah meets someone new and poor old Tom seems the odd man out. News of a pending marriage really sends Tom overboard. Groom to be Colin is from Scotland and for the big day Hannah wants Tom to be her maid of honor. Traditionalists will cringe at this ridiculous suggestion but somehow Tom feels compelled to accept the responsibilities of helping his best friend out.
Director Paul Weiland (City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold) knows how to coax wonderful comic performances out of his cast and here the chemistry works well. Light-hearted and thoroughly enjoyable Dempsey carries the day as the down on his luck friend now up to his neck in trouble. He wants the girl he never had back and is up against what seems like insurmountable odds. Friends try to help him win her over but it’s a tough road to hoe.
Cast as Mr. Scotland is Kevin McKidd (Hannibal Rising) who would set any woman’s heart aflutter with Michelle Monaghan (The Bourne Supremacy) exhibiting great range as the much in demand bride to be.
Warm humour, engaging performances, foreign settings and a rush to judgment make Made of Honor 101 minutes of romantic fun laced with light-hearted comedy and real chemistry between the two leads that’s bound to make you feel mushy all over. Rank Made of Honor as a good date movie likely to help put viewers in the mood afterwards in a charming, endearing way.
