That Was The Week That Was

Dr Frank

I had a meeting with Dr Thaksin (Dr Frank) and his people on Sunday morning and at this moment, with two games to go in the season, I don't want to make any comment about that '

It's a tired old cliche, but a week is a long time in football and it has felt a little bit longer for Sven Goran Eriksson. So come with me as I cast an eye over the stories that made the news and asks: "Anyone got a spare ticket for Moscow?"

MONDAY FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! As if the 90 minutes on the pitch at Stamford Bridge wasn't exciting enough - flying teeth, bust-ups, Owen Hargreaves getting hit in the balls - then what happened after the game was even better. Patrice Evra has always seemed like a bit of a nutter, but his scrap with a Chelsea groundsman really takes the biscuit, not least because he seemed to choose to conduct it with his tongue sticking out. Needless to say, the fall-out is still rambling on this morning, with accusations flying like lawnmowers.

Unfortunately, all of this has overshadowed the most amusing 'angry (semi) naked goalkeeper stalking the corridors of a football stadium' story since Fatty Foulke's heyday, with Marcus Hahnemann's barely-contained fury at the lack of hot water in the JJB Stadium showers after Reading's draw with Wigan about 55 times more interesting than anything that happened on the pitch. Particularly as Emile Heskey had to break off from a TV interview to tell him to quit moaning about it. They're just lucky no-one was mowing the pitch, otherwise there could have been REAL trouble.

Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez has decided to stir things up ahead of Liverpool's Champions League rematch with Chelsea: "With Drogba, it's important to have a good referee. You can't do anything, but I will say it because it was so clear. He is amazing because he is massive. It's very impressive. I have a lot of clips of him from over the years and he surprises me. After four years, I expected it." In case you missed the insult in there, he's basically calling Didier Drogba a cheat.

TUESDAY
It's a big day in Manchester, as Barcelona are in town for their Champions League semi-final second leg, but United are being overshadowed by their neighbours for once.
