This is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS, yet is not surprising and it certainly explains the mentality of the people in charge of the VPD. Here are two officers that made headlines for police abuse and misconduct and now they're getting an award and are being offered up as role models, with the chief stating that all members should strive to be like these two abusive, unethical cops.

The officers in question are also being sued for false arrests, false imprisonment, assualt and negligent investigation. The criminal offences they committed while carrying out their duties are unbelievable.

I'd like to know how many of those 106 new charges resulted in actual convictions. Based on the way these two carry out their duties as police officers and the blatant bullsh*t they put into their reports, I would have to guess not even half of them.

This is absolutley unacceptable that two officers caught abusing the rights of any prisoner, whether he is scum or not, are awarded anything. The only award cops like this should be getting is the fact that they still have their jobs and weren't fired for such unacceptable behaviour.

For the chief to state that all members should strive to be like these two is why the VPD truly is the largest criminal organization in this city and is why we all should be afraid, very, very afraid! The announcement below was found on their webpage.

Chief Constable’s Commendation and Certificate Of Merit Award Ceremony - January 24, 2008 Date: 2008-01-24

The Vancouver Police Department held a commendation ceremony today.

CHIEF CONSTABLE COMMENDATION:

1. Not all police work involves rescues from muddy waters or burning buildings. Good old-fashioned police work involves diligence and sustained effort that results in arrests and writing reports. Constables Eric Davis and Jennifer Antonel do that better than most.
On average, in a year, a patrol officer averages about 20 new charges and writes about 109 general occurrence reports. In 2006, these partners were involved in 106 new charges and wrote 350 reports.

In my twenty years of working with Vancouver street youth, I have been aware of many incidents of wanton and sadistic police brutality against kids, both male and female. During that time I have not been aware of a single act of kindness on the part of police toward homeless youth (I'm not saying that such acts didn't occur, and would be happy if they did.) My experience with the complaints process is that it is heavily biased in favor of the police, and is virtually a waste of time. The police investigate themselves, rarely bother with facts or evidence, forward their 'findings' to the Complaints Commission, which then finds in favor of the police. Complaint dismissed. I once sent a letter to the Complaints Commissioner saying that they should put a disclaimer on their website: 'We work for the cops, so Drop Dead'. No reply yet.

You know what, i agree with you, Police Officers...should be held to very high standards of conduct, morality and responsibility, but I don't think you become a police officer based on those merits - in all fairness, there's also street smarts, and probably a bit of brutishness required as well.

But it goes too far when officers involved in obviously wrong conduct, are given an award, that I really don't agree with - i honestly think the police force is over-taxed and under-trained, and lacks real leadership. Vancouver tops Canada for many of the B&Es...and these cops probably catch them time and time again, and then let them go. My point is their behavior is inexcusable, but also makes me wonder if it's a symptom of much bigger problems.
