The state is Rio Grande do Norte, on the North East of Brazil - an amazing place with a beautiful coast line. And that is the spot David Beckham chose to open his newest investment. Not bad. A Norwegian group called Brasil Development is building the complex and is responsible for Beckham's visit.
He arrived on January 29 and left the same day. Many fans were there to try and see the famous football player but only a few managed to get a picture of Beckham. He had some interesting requirements.
Celebrities normally have a long list of demands every time they appear at an event. Bottles of champagne, lots of towels, weird requests, photos taken from a certain angle, etc. But David had a problem with the women.
First, no one in the event was allowed to take pictures, only the photographer hired for the event could take them. Concerned about his image like I think he is, that didn't surprised me at all. But what I thought was a bit of a extreme demand was to have a male translator and that he wouldn't be posing for pictures alone with any woman.
What kind of request is that? Does he think women will just grab his neck and rip his clothes off? Or is that some insecure issue his wife had and it's actually her demand, and not his? Either way, asking for a male translator says what? Do Brazilian women carry such a bad reputation that they can't do their job? I just can't seem to find a reasonable explanation for his requirements for a simple one-day event. What would be the problem to have a picture taken with a woman?
Is Victoria Beckham that jealous?

By senhoritacin, February 2, 2008 at 14:26I just think the whole image control thing is a bit too much. He's a sports man, a public man, he got fans all over the planet. No pictures with women? Just sounds rude and ridiculous.

By Michelle Kenneth, January 31, 2008 at 16:42Considering Becks is in Hollywood now and has to deal with Hollywood paps all the time, perhaps staying out of a picture with women beyond his wife is just his way of protecting himself from stupid rumors that could surface over something as innocent as a picture. Better to be safe than sorry.
Now, I would have been mad about the lone photographer. It reminds me of the issues a certain hockey team has been giving to me because they know I publish my own photos with my articles. They have special agreements with Getty Images. Since I am still new to sports photography, I'm not good enough for Getty Images, yet. I have to spend the next 3-5 years publishing my own photos with my articles before Getty will even consider my work (not to mention the volume I have to present to them...that's hard to acquire).
Granted, that's the only team that gives me issues. All the other teams in the league have given me carte blanche in the photography realm.
Re: Beckham In Brazil - And Scared Of Women
By Robyn Stubbs, January 30, 2008 at 14:06That's so weird ... I managed to get into a press conference he was holding here in Vancouver without any media credentials - just a nice smile and an "oops - I must have left my business cards the office!" The first thing that ran through my mind when I read about this most recent "no photos with women" rule was that Mrs. Becks was somehow behind it. And how weird is it to wear that shirt? I know he's proud of his girl, but please ...
