The John Edwards Group

The 2004 Vice Presidential Candidate is back in black...with a darker brand of politics.

John Edwards has officially transformed himself from a fighter against lobbyists to a lobbyist, from an agent of change to an agent of Obama. '

The final Democratic Presidential Debate before Tuesday's New Hampshire Primaries featured the usual theme for the candidates...that included former Senator John Edwards' frequent attempt to pull the rug from under the feet of the Clinton Campaign. However, there arose a valid idea that Edwards is not so different from the special interest groups which he vowed to destroy come January 21, 2009.

Meet the new Special Interest Group, the John Edwards Campaign. As I watched tonight’s ABC/Facebook Presidential Primary debate live from New Hampshire, I began to sense the tide of hypocrisy washing ashore on the John Edwards Campaign. Here we have a man passionate to the point where those who have felt his pain may have at times felt the burning sensation of tears surrounding their eyes.

For those who have been following this road to the White House on the Democratic side are aware of John Edwards’ history. The product of a working family with a working background, John Edwards grew up fighting what he calls the status quo. He promises to do the same for the American working class by eradicating the parasitic special interest groups that have controlled Washington for years. Together, the former senator along with fellow presidential candidate Barack Obama are singing the same chorus of change, and as seen in Iowa, we are buying into it.

Unlike Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, John Edwards is financially cap-strapped, and so he has succumbed to textbook Darwinism—the survival of the fittest. It started three months ago during a debate where John Edwards and Senator Obama formed a one-two punch more formidable than former Lakers teammates Shaq and Kobe.

Edwards would throw the lob to Obama and he would hammer it down in the face of Hillary without an ounce of remorse. They got the better of her that night, and since then, Edwards and Obama have continued to be the biased one-two punch. Both candidates are playing for the team of change, but Edwards and Obama respectively play a different position.

Is this not the embodiment of a special interest group—a lobbyist? These groups support the ones in position for a grander objective, one that suits them specifically.

Democratic establishment? Check this out...

8 years of Regan, 4 years of bush, 8 years of Clinton, 8 years of Bush.

8+4+8= 12 years of Republicans
8 years of Democrats...now you tell me face to face on the subject of establishment, who wins....need me to go to the Establishment in Congress where Republicans have owned the Democrats. Establishment has nothing to do with it. If establishment means a successful nation then tell you what? I'll take it.

8 years of Clinton, the budget is balanced, 8 years of Bush (I will do the favor of not adding 4 years f his daddy) gave us economic peril.

The crime of everyone? The republican candidates have more differences in their issues than democratic candidates. Do you see Bill Richardson (whatever little air time he gets) slicing and dicing like Edwards? What Edwards is doing is very divisive. He and Obama has the EXACT same message he is playing the strategy of proxy war. He is campaigning against Clinton for Obama, there is absolutely no difference between Obama and Edwards (except one is more angry) so in a sense Edwards has embraced the role as an arm of the Obama campaign...a political mercenary.

Your second paragraph about Dean and Bush proves exactly what I aimed to get across. Would you deny that Dean is a democrat and Bush is a Republican, No? I didn't think so...that is the point exactly, attacks are neccessary on the front runner no doubt. However, just like you pointed out to be that being selfish for one's self interest is "life". In Life there is a line to everything, and there are certain lines you just don't cross. When John Edwards called Hillary Clinton the "status quo"---that is a line only suited for the republicans. There is a certain way to attack the front runner of a party but if it is a fellow party member certain attacks are taboo...extremely dividing and weakening to the party. I don't know if I could ever move past my fellow party member calling me the status quo...that was a line meant for the neo-cons in Washington. The last time I checked, Hillary took on special interest groups, and she never made it the point of her duty to cut taxes for the rich thus making them richer. Edward pretty much called Hillary a republican...Hillary a republican?

Dividing the party and making it harder for the nominee bring the party back together is not fair...think about it. With the dropping out of Richardson (just saw it on TV) This race should be, who will win the nomination...will it be Clinton, Obama, or Edwards...not Clinton versus Edwards and Obama ticket....that right there is the status quo because Clinton in a sense has become the little guy that Edwards labeled himself to be.

Ha! Too bad, for once the Edwards-Obama ticket strategy backfired...Edwards actually split the anti-Clinton vote enough to make her win...so I agree with you. Let them duke it out...way to go Edwards!

I'm not sure how one merges a sentient being's selfish self interests (everyone alive!!!!) and 'lobby group'. I think if we accept this position, we are all lobbyists - fair enough I guess, but singling out one individual for the crimes everyone is guilty of seems unfair. And frankly, the whole article seems a little disingenuous.

If it is a political no-no to attack the front-runner's positions, or to table a characterization of the same individual, what's the point of an electoral process? Dean would have lost to Bush in a land slide last time around; Kerry did make it close (had he carried Ohio he would have won, some claim he did win Ohio). And the so-called 'outsider' that was Dean (although he was in politics for many years) is now the Democratic chair - where the establishment sits.

Add up the years the Bushs and Clintons have spent in the white house and then try to deny with a straight face that Hillary is not the democratic establishment candidate. The fact is that she IS; pointing this out seems exceedingly fair. The fact that Edwards wants it is fair as well. Let them duke it out and take it for what it is - pure entertainment, matched only by the spectacle that is a NASCAR event (same amount of commercials). The winner gets to lose to the Republicans in November.
